4. What is your favorite book?
I was asked this ten months ago and I’m super sorry for replying so late, but it’s been in my drafts this whole time! You can see the draft number in the tags. Anyway, my favorite book is called Code Name Verity and it’s by Doctor Elizabeth E Wein, who I have dmed with on twitter in the past. Also up on the list is Little Women, which is my favorite classic, and Not My Problem by Ciara Smyth, which is my favorite book I’ve read in the last year.
k-12 is the worst fucking movie i’ve ever seen
what are your thoughts on the rangers drafts and trades? i can't believe they actually trading carlos :(
ill go step by step
1. trading carl hagelin was no-one’s first choice, especially sather’s. the ONLY reason we traded hags was due to cap reasons. he would have commanded 4 million which is too much for a 3rd liner. i wish we could have kept him and stepan and fast and miller and hunwick but with him asking for that much money, it would have been impossible. etem emerson would likely only ask for 1 million while fulfilling the same 3rd line role. in addition, fast’s breakout season probably made sather feel more comfortable trading hagelin, because fast seems like he can handle a similar role.
2. i definitely think sather overplayed his hand with cam. he was offered two 2nd rounders which would have been better than what we ended up with, but at the end of the day we don’t know exactly what went down. i think the return for cam wasnt the best we could have gotten, but it’s still pretty damn good for a backup goalie.
3. The draft. I feel like we definitely skipped over some MEGA talent (especially bracco, Nikita Korostelev, and Dmytro Timashov). And i think a problem is we keep drafting size over skill which we know isn’t always smart, with McIlrath as example (also Zucc, Gaudreau, and MSL are all examples of how great small players can be.) Still, I’m a HUGE fan of Robin Kovacs and I think he’ll be a great player for us in a couple of years or so, especially if he gains muscle. I really like Saarela too, he seems like an amazing center which is something we really need. I don’t think we should have taken Gropp so early, but the Rangers traded up specifically to get him so there must be something about him they love. Overall, not an awful draft day not a great one.
I think it’s important to remember the Rangers have never built through the draft, instead getting great free agents and through trades. As it stands right now, I’m not super confident about next year but I don’t think we’ll be as bad as a lot of people think. Besides, the off season just started and if you think Sather and the Rangers are done making trades you’re crazy. I’m excited to see what the team looks like come October!
ROY RADKE IM YELLING
the maple leafs are honestly having the best draft. they scored two players (timashov and bracco) that i would have LOVED to be on the Rangers. congrats, may the rebuilding begin
