1926 Jeanne Mammen, In the Bar
I’d looked at a couple bikes, all via craigslist - a 400cc Kawasaki & a CB350 - but when I saw this listing and met the owner I knew this CJ360T was going to be my next bike. I showed up at night to check it out and took it for a test ride to the ATM to get money. I couldn’t have made the decision in that moment without Kelsey there with me.
I got back with the cash & was about to pull away when the bike full on died. Also just to mention, the bike may or may not have been street legal or registered at the time, but I was down for the adventure -- just a few miles home. So I took the battery home and charged it overnight before returning to Highland Park to drive it home the next day.
Before picking up the bike we decided to hit-up the Rose Bowl with some friends. What did I find at this treasure trove of thrifting but the perfect fitting brown leather jacket. Not only that, but without realizing it there was a 12″ Honda patch smack in the middle of the back! A good sign if I’ve ever seen one.
So with a charged battery in hand I was ready for the ride. The bike was very weak, the throttle needed feathering the whole time, the front brake was half disconnected, I could even get up to 35mph. On top of all that the bike had make shift drag-bars installed (rather than the stock 2-into-1 exhaust) so not only was it Loud-As-F%&K but it was backfiring the whole time. Quite an experience, but I was able to get it up the driveway, and tuck it out of the way while I plan and order parts.
