It had not been long since her return from the kingdom of Alberia, and to her relief, in her absence, Xander had led her army to counter the orders of the Askran commander. However, even with her amicable time alongside Alfonse in another world, her blood urged her to return to her war against his kingdom. Perhaps this time, with her newest known hero, she would gain the upper hand.

“Ready yourselves...” warned the princess, “This new hero is not one to be trifled with.” With the summoning already underway, the sizable outfit of knights, paladins, and even mages were quick to prepare. Spears raised, swords drawn, and spells mid-chant, her forces braced themselves, should the dragonblood prince come out swinging.

Just as with the last time, the space before Veronica parted with a bright flash before sealing nearly immediately afterward, leaving behind the prince from another world.

    “...Yeah, I guess it looks that way.”

    He can’t exactly hold it against the Prince; not everyone has the cynicism of a seasoned inquisitor. But he kept insisting on tagging along for investigations, so he may as well indulge him.

    “A bunch of idiots running around chanting actual gibberish and coating shit in pig’s blood--honestly, I used to think it was kind of funny too.” That was always how it started, wasn’t it? Some farmers who’d suffered, pissed off at the goddess for not doing enough for them and turning to something else to solve their problems. 

    “Sometimes having an inquisitor come tell them to cut it out works. Problem is, usually they just buckle down even harder. People don’t really like being told what to do, especially when it comes to their religion. Even if it’s teetering on super dangerous. By the time I come back around, it’s usually because someone’s died.”

    He crosses his arms and leans back against the wall, shoulders slumped. This shit really could wear on a person after long enough. 

    “...Tell you what; you’re a much more charismatic guy than me. Why don’t you go try to talk them out of this cult shit? I think they get more mad at me ‘cause they think I’m trying to make them go back to Ilia.” Well, the Church would probably prefer that, but Curran didn’t care so long as whatever they worshiped didn’t ask for any human sacrifices. (Minimal animal ones were usually ideal, too.)

While the chains that bound a ruler to their people were heavy, many forgot that they were nothing but air. The castle was full of people that shed that burden (be it by choice or by force), instead linking themselves to the Traitor Prince of Alberia. Or the Prince of New Alberia, depending on one’s optimism. 

“You won’t, I know; the dissonance between your character and the action would rend your soul apart, but people have survived with less than half.” Some walked with none at all.

“But you hoist the only banner of sanity on this continent at the moment. Should I leave, I’d surely perish within the madness one way or another. Any of your associates could leave your cause, but were they not tied so closely to your person, I would wager most of them would stay anyways for the same reason. Believe in fates as you may, but there’s always a choice.”

He shrugged, “Besides, I would be dreadfully bored without your merry band of miscreants mulling about my life.”

             to the one injured himself, maybe it wasn’t. but the smell of it invades mika’s senses, bad enough that he tilts his head away to avoid catching sight of rich tones of red once again. the thrumming of veins intrudes sharp ears, and instinct screams at the current stillness of his limbs. “ well, i’ll let you be on your way, then. you must want to take care of it, either way. ” the suggestion comes more for his own sake than the others.
