Animal Tendencies Of The Fire Nation

Specficially, the royal family. While most FN citizens are more cat and lizard-like, the royal family are quite dragon-like. Each member of the royal family, that are in the bloodline (Ursa and such do not count), are born as little demi-humans, with red (or blue, in some cases) scales over parts of their body, with tiny horns, wings, and a tail. As they grow up, the tail falls off, the scales match the skin-tone, their eyes go from cat-like slits to regular pupils, and the horns and wings shrink until they leave just faint scars in the skin. Their hands and feet go from claw-like to human-like, however their teeth and tounge (sharp & forked respectively) don’t change.

Until they look human-enough to pass as “normal”, the royal family does not let their child out of the palace, and preferably away from nobles when they can. However, the dragon appereance only starts showing after the first month, and fades around 5, so the royal family still shows their child at a month old to the public to officially name them, and then doesnt show them again until they look human.

Zuko’s dragoness didn’t fade entirely until he was 6, a year past the “norm”, where as Azula’s faded at 4 and a half.

After their dragoness disappears, their scales can still be seen like a reflection of fire when close to or surrounded by firelight, and from time to time their scales will show back up in full, particularly around autumn when things get “cold” (or when its not blisteringly hot, since its the fire nation) or in genuinely cold climates like the water tribes.

However, they are not told about this family gene until they are around 15. Iroh may or may not have forgotten to tell Zuko about it until after the war when Zuko’s scales showed during a visit to the southern water tribe.

Alongside the appearance differences, they also have some family-specific traits, mannerisms, etc that they get from being dragon-like. The ability to breathe fire (which will happen when their very mad, otherwise they’ll need to learn it), the ability to roar and growl like a dragon, the ability to very easily scale walls, and other such things.

Had a rough start to the week so any silly Toothless headcanon?

You know that thing that dogs do when they’re getting in deep with some itchy back/butt areas? Like they nash down on some part of their hindquarters and go ‘hnnnomnomnomnom’?

Toothless does that. I mean, dragons do it, but Toothless, as a dragon does that. It happens when scales that need to be shed are stubborn and get dry and clingy and itchy, and he just gets his little teeth out and bites his own heiny and goes ‘hnnngggnomnomnomnom’

The Scion Dragons

These are the children of two parent dragons.  The power results from these offspring were a surprise to their parents.  These children had an easier ability to blend into humanity than their parents.  Scion dragons were born human, which makes their human form their base.  These gave them less of a need for human blood than their parents.  To produce a child, it could be an elder or scion, or two of each; as long as they are both dragons by birth.

The Scions had powers that came to be great help to the other dragons.  They had ways to help their parents, especially the Elders, escape the pain of time.  Scions had trouble with their powers at times, but with practice and time, they became even more powerful.  Some of them even surpassing the Elders in raw power.

The children were immortal, as well.  They were still prone to become exhausted, needing to sleep for some length to regenerate power and life.  Scions were also more likely to blend in other supernatural cultures, rather than isolating themselves like many of the Elders did.

The Dragons

There are several myths and legends surrounding the origins of the dragons.  Many, nowadays, give way to the tales being works of fiction -- a way for people to explain something larger than themselves.  A fantasy tale -- fictional and unreal.

The truth is only known by a few - typically those that are trusted to know the secret.  

Dragons were originally brought about out of necessity -- be it by the Earth sensing the need, the people of an area praying for something, or a combination of both.  They were not human from their creation.  They were dragons, and the ability to shift into human from came with time.  Some of them gained other forms based upon their magic.  

With the Dragons originating from the Earth, this made them tied to it.  Every shift and change in the world, as well as the people inhabiting it, they felt.  This also meant that some of the dragons were born out of darker times, giving them domain over equally darker powers.  

Some of the dragons found love with each other, conceiving children.  This could only happen in their human forms; which meant that their children were born human.  These children would later learn to shift forms, but human would be their base one - no matter what.  The children would also have an easier time maintaining their human forms compared to their parents.

Another plus that the children, or the Scions, had was that they did not need to rest as much.  They could blend into humanity easier, while their parents would, at times, exhaust themselves if the shift in humanity became too much.  It would take time and learning to help the Elders maintain control over their powers better.  One way they discovered to help the Elders was the intake of human blood.  (Similar to the way vampires would come to later on.)  This gave them the natural life force to help maintain their human forms.  Scions could still find benefit from the intake of blood, but they were not as tied to it as the Elders.

It would be the dragons that sought to help create the Glade -- wanting to protect those that were in need.  The dragons connection to the fae would remain shrouded in mystery for much longer.

Shapeshifting (Various degrees, but each has a dragon and human form at minimum)

Powers tied with nature

Limited telepathy (Some have higher strength in this)

Need for human blood (Lesser in the Scions)

Believe in a consort/soulmate philosophy

Can “die” (Their body reaches a state of complete weakness, and it can take them a long time to completely recover.)

Ability to glamour (Stronger than the fae glamours)

Ancient.  (Scions more likely to “know” their own age.)

Most try to stay out of humanity and supernatural words.

Headcanon: Dragons & Singing

All dragons sing, and their voices are quite beautiful. They will sing all day, every day, everywhere if they enjoy it enough. Generally for either many people, or to no one. But a private song shared between a dragon and one other person is a little different. It's special. Intimate. And they can be very sensitive about it.

So a while back I said I will do some Modern AU! Monkey D. Dragon list of headcanons and I got pumped from seeing the new ask blog and it’s 2 am here, anyways here we go:

Oh yeah Note: I will prob share a lot of the same headcanons with @blenheims since we chat a lot about headcanons lmao:

Dragon owns a Radio station

He saved Sabo from a house fire and adopted him basically

He kinda adopted Koala because as well since she helps/works at the radio station 

He is Brazilian

He is that kinda scary silent tall dude that accidentally intimates the shit out of other people but is actually pretty chill and nice

Luffy will never listen to his ass ever, so he kinda gave up at telling Luffy what to do

He will tell Sabo to tell Luffy something

I bet he is kinda book smart since he seems to know about things in One Piece and runs a fucking army

He also Never  listens to Garp

Oh boy he was a handful when he was a kid

He would be a little shit to be a little shit

Was a police offer along with Garp but left

He caused nothing but trouble when he was a cadet

Became friends with Cora

He prob would help Cora if his clumsy ass would fall and knock himself out

He annoyed the living hell out of Sengoku the chef

Sengoku retired as soon as he found out that Dragon had a kid, three Monkey D was too much for him

Garp seems like a father that will drag any of his immediate family to go work out at the gym with him, much to Dragon’s displeasure

I bet Dragon would do parkour over buildings like assassins fucking creed to get to his favorite food truck

Best friends with Iva and Kuma

He is pretty tall but some how he has found taller people and befriended them

Iva and Dragon baffle each from time to time

Can run the obstacle course faster than anyone, thanks to Garp’s training

btw is still the record holder for it

It’s like a weird cadet initiation to arrest Dragon at least once

He prob has done some weird shit when he was a cadet so he is kinda legend tho he was always called by a nick name or “I heard this one cadet did this_” so no one knows it was him

Prob has like a pet python or cat at his radio station

He HATES getting his hair cut so he avoids the hairdresser like the plague, Iva seems like the only one that has been successful at getting him to go

Prob has the random falls asleep anywhere, it’s kinda rare like Garp and Luffy tho

I bet he knows how to cook decently well since spending time with his mother when Garp was at work all the time

He probs is the one that shops for stuff in this house, since everyone else hates it and he is just kinda stuck with it, though he does take Iva tho

Needs about five cups of coffee a day to function

I bet his radio shows are interesting because all his friends and family are pretty interesting people and kinds just show up when ever the hell they want

Knows a lot of gossip but doesn’t tell anyone anything unless it’s an News worthy

Kinda just spaces out and stares at stuff when he is thinking

Prob knows a few languages 

Him and his entire family fucking loves Soccer

The Dragons

When the dragons speak of themselves, you will often hear them refer to Elders or Scions.  Elder dragons are the ones that came to life out of the necessity of the planet.  They were the Earth protecting itself, or giving man kind the guidance needed.  The only problem was that many of the Elder dragons had no idea how to live or function among the mortals.  Some lived out lives from childhood to adult, while others began life in a more adult form.  A handful even had time between their creation, and when they learned the ability to take on human form.

To maintain this human shift, dragons need blood - human blood.  This need is one of the leading theories as to why many pinpoint dragons as the sires of the vampires.  There is no conclusive evidence of this, however.

The Scions are the children of dragons.  These offspring have two dragon parents, which means they can shift into a dragon form.  Unlike their parents, the Scions base form is a human one.  Scions were a mystery for awhile due to how their powers mixed, and this made for some powerful dragons that were feared and coveted equally.  Scions still need blood, but not at the rate or level their parents do.  Blood helps them best when they are injured, as it will stimulate the healing process.

To be born with a dragon shift, one must have two dragon parents.  If only one parent is a dragon, then the offspring will simply have a high chance of being some sort of shifter - the likes of which is usually influenced by the other parent’s powers.

Dragons are protective of the fae.  Legend says that the dragons created the fae through having children with humans, but no one alive can confirm that origin.
