So I have a question about Remy when he signs. I don't know much sign language but what I do know, none of it is complete sentences. And you always write his signing complete sentences so it got me thinking, there away to actually sign in complete sentences or when he signs is it actually like just phrases?
I’m kind of taking a tumblr hiatus to finish up commissions and sort my life out, but I really wanted to answer this question.
No one on this Earth should sign in complete english sentences, because sign is in complete sentences- it just follows different rules then normal english. It drops certain articles like ‘be’ articles (am, is, are, were, ect) and ‘a, an, the’ because these things aren’t really needed to communicate. Furthermore sign follows more of a Topic-Comment format then what you’re used to.
So if Remy is speaking LITERALLY it’d be like:
Virgil: “What did you do?” Remy: “DEE? I THROW.” (Topic- comment)
(And just a side clarification; If the object is first then it’s passive or past tense, if the subject is first, it’s present tense.)
Syntax fills in the rest, so Virgil infers that because Dee (the object) is first it has previously happened:
Virgil: “What did you do?”Remy: ‘I threw Dee.’
I use (’) instead of (”) to show that technically I’m paraphrasing so non-sign speakers can understand at all what Remy is saying. If I wrote everything in actual sign grammar I’d alienate most people who don’t know the rules to sign, and even as someone who uses it I still f@ck up from time to time putting it in word format so it’s just easier to paraphrase.

Hey so... I had a thought while rereading one of the chapters: whenever you talk about v sleeping he's sleeping on his side. Is that to avoid laying on his lil wings? If he ever lays on his wings is it more uncomfy or painful? Could he break those wings if he, for instance, fell on them? If so how would the others react? HAS he ever broken a wing?
I have mentioned before that the membranes of his wings will stick together if smushed for too long and that’s a little uncomfortable. The bones in his wings are actually pretty strong, and he’s not super reckless so I don’t think he’s broken one before. (It’s kinda like breaking an arm? So it could be common but he hasn’t done it before.)

Today's random and inescapable question. Where did Virgil get that hat from the 'cursed house' ask? Did he make it? Was it given to him? Does he still have it?
The cursed house actually wasn’t an ask, it was just a comic idea that wormed it’s way into my head and wouldn’t leave until I gave it image.
And to answer your question he, and the other witches make their own clothes. So he probably made it and may still have it but favors his newer clothes over it. (Y’know, witch styles and fashion changes over the course of a few hundred years.)
