Dragon-i: New dinner tasting menu in an unexpected place
Dragon-i: New dinner tasting menu in an unexpected place [REVIEW]
Talk of Dragon-i usually surrounds a few stories of late night misadventures where bottles were bought and far too much money was spent. It’s safe to say that most people in the city associate this well-known establishment with Russian models and messy, pretentious nights out. Dragon-i is now working a new angle to entice people to pop over for dinner well before the debauchery begins. In case…

Dragon-i
Its been a while since our last visit to Johor Bahru but yesterday Aunt J called and asked if we would like to go. It was too hot, really, to do anything productive. She sold mom on the idea by telling her that they were going to try to find a good hairdresser there.
So, around 3pm, we stood in the hot sun in Queen Street for the express JB bus. The drive up there was really quite nice. No jam but the drive back was horrible. The traffic jam was terrible and we couldn't figure out why until this morning. There was a newspaper report about a man who drove the Woodlands checkpoint. The jam was probably because of that. The second security breach at the checkpoint. And the alleged terrorist angle with the MAS crash probably didn't help matters.
Anyway, after AT saw the ophthalmologist, we went to dinner at Dragon-i. After that horrible dinner at Jumbo, I needed something to replace the horrible meal. The spinach with egg dish was quite good (I thought) and the fried rice was pretty good too, but not as good as Din Tai Fung. The xiao long bao was also passable, but again, not as good as Din Tai Fung. We also ordered the sweet and sour pork which was actually quite good. I just think its funny how sweet and sour pork is an American dish but it has now become something that is on almost every Asian chinese restaurant menu.
The meal wasn't terribly expensive (I think!). Aunt J did not think that the service was very good and I have to admit that although it wasn't as terrible as Jumbo, it did leave quite a lot to be desired. The waiters seemed to be quite well versed in the art of playing deaf most of the time. But we got our food in an adequately timely manner so I suppose we can't complain too much.
