I've always seen Gintama on my dash but I've never actually watched/read it. I want to tho! Should I start with the anime or the manga? Or does it not matter?

Personally I started with anime and when it ended I read manga but it doesn’t really matter. You can either start with manga or anime, you can even watch anime and read manga at the same time, it depends how you prefer it ^^ I just recommend to not skip manga chapters that were animated, but if you want to, anime ends at chapter 411.

Also about movies, first one is a remake of one of gintama’s arc and you should watch it after Benizakura arc or instead of it, like you wish, I watched movie more than 5 times by now tho :P

Second movie is a brand new story written by mangaka and I recommend to watch it after you finish anime or the best time (and by that I mean it will be more traumatic) when you catch up with current manga’s arc ^^
