That was why he had thought to seek the guidance of the gods. As he clutched the dying Aera, he had stretched his hand out to the Crystal on the altar. What was fit for a man who continued to slaughter the innocent was not a throne but a bolt of judgment.

O gods, now is the hour of judgment! I beseech you, reveal your will!

So had he desperately wished. The sacred stone the gods had bequeathed unto the human world would show him what ought to be, and would light the right path. It had to.

But that wish had been denied him. With a shock and a violent flash of light, the Crystal had flung Ardyn and Aera away.

Somnus’s triumphant voice rained down from above onto the fallen Ardyn. He forgot to do so much as stand. He could not move an inch.

If this was the will of the gods, if they decreed that a man who massacred those had become daemons was to be king, what was everything Ardyn had done?
