a bunch of aegis doodles bc i dont draw him enough (and also @df-thoughts‘ aegis redesign bc it lives in my brain rent free)
I don’t have time to draw this right now but this idea from a discord conversation a while ago is making me wanna cry atm so
post-unfreezing, Steph lives with Aegis (even though the whole ice aesthetic he’s got in his house is... not great for the old mental health after 5 years of being frozen) for two reasons
-her own house contains like. a couch and a side table and a beaten-up rug. she’s not exactly a master of home decorating or even passable furnishing and she’s really not sure what to do with a house anyway.
-she needs someone to wake her up in the mornings.
while she was frozen, she drifted in and out of half-consciousness over and over, and when she was more conscious it was... something like when you half-wake up, you know you’ve seriously overslept, but you can’t quite open your eyes and wake up the rest of the way. this vague feeling of dread, and of needing to be somewhere, doing something, without being able to move, over and over, for five years.
after she unfreezes, waking up on her own becomes traumatic-- she always half-expects to be back in the ice, to finally wake up and find that years have passed and she’s let everyone down again. the experience of regaining consciousness almost sends her into a panic, every single morning.
the only way she’s found to prevent it? if Aegis comes in extra-early every morning, singing and laughing and making noise and shining a light on her face. the transition to consciousness is instant and she knows right away that she’s not alone, that nothing is wrong, she’s got a friend with her and things are okay right now.
