Hi, I saw you wanted some critical feedback on Fieldwork. First, I should preface that I really enjoy it. It's unique and interesting. The way you're going about translating the dialogue is intuitive, so I don't think you should be worrying about that. If I had to critique something, I would say that perhaps descriptions of new people and locations are lacking. For instance, the sailor Asami chatted with at the beginning. It's a minor nitpick and I had to search to find anything negative at all.
That seems to be a common thought. lol I’ll definitely try to remember to add more descriptive passages when appropriate. Thank you, though, for the compliments and for reading! :)
Let's hear about your Sith. I love people's stories about their MMO characters.
Lomea. She wasn’t always a slave. She’d been part of a powerful Sith family until it had fallen out of favor before her abilities were discovered.
So her rise to power was as much about reclaiming what was stolen as anything else.
She’d an odd one. Sarcastic. Manipulative. Long thinking. She craves knowledge, as the path to power.
She’s constantly sparing people. Not because she’s ‘good’ (though she’s more ‘good’ than she’d ever admit) but because they might be useful.
Where other sith are killing all the people that displease them, Lomea is instead turning them to her side. Manipulating them into doing her bidding. Making them trust her. Making them respect her. Making them think that she respects them.
Where other Sith have a trail of bodies behind them, Lomea has followers. She has a fucking cult and she loves it.
Why have people cowing in fear when they can love you. When they’d die for you not because you’re threatening their families but because they know you’ll take care of them. Because they know that you’ll stride onto the battle field in front of them and lay waste to the enemy, that you’ll fight with them and that you won’t simply sacrifice them for no reason. That there’s always a reason. And with her own fleet and more resources than ever on the Dark Council, she can sway even more people to her side.
She did like the Revanites. It was that questline that started her on the path towards the Light side. She realized that the most powerful person would need to understand all facets of the force. To not let the Darkness consume them. But to also not let the light drown the dark. And then that whole mess with Revan himself. Disappointing. Obviously, Lomea can do better.
That doesn’t mean she won’t take a little pleasure in electrocuting someone who truely deserves it. Sniveling cowards, mostly.
She’s even made friends on the other side. Jedi she’s convinced to believe in her. After all, if one Sith can be reasoned with, if one Sith is willing to lower the body count, maybe there will be others. And having pull among the Jedi and the Republic… well that’s always useful, isn’t it? And the war can’t last forever. Honestly, it’s a pointless war that the Empire will lose if the Sith don’t pull their heads out of their asses.
Where other Sith are killing each other and fighting for control, she’s there, pointing out (in her sarcastic manner), that by infighting they’re just making the Republic stronger. And honestly she’d just kill most of them and install herself as empress because then shit would actually get done. She really did like Darth Marr though. But then everything that came out. About the Emperor, the real reason for the war...Maybe the galaxy would be better off consuming itself in conflict, but then, where would that leave her?
And trust…well trust comes hard. She can’t show vulnerability, or trust the wrong people. That way leads death. But she’s only human. So she loves someone, but no one else could ever know. But even then it’s useful. She loves an Imperial Agent. An assassin. A master of espionage. And that’s useful.
And maybe some day that agent will stab her in the back, but for once in her life she doesn’t think so. Because when they were both at their worse, when they had no one else to turn to, they had each other. And that is loyalty. The kind that can’t be bought. And if some day, she’s the one to stab Lomea in the back...well it’s better her than someone else.
Ultimately, what Lomea wants is simple, to her.
Her woman. Her empire. Knowledge. And her cult to worship her, of course.
And if there’s a way to cheat death, or at least take a nice long nap while the galaxy sorts itself out, she’ll find it.
My EU exposure is mostly via the video games, so in that case it’s the Jedi Knight games. For the current canon it’s still The Clone Wars but Rebels is catching up.
12. Favorite villain from the EU?
Don’t have an answer here, I’m sorry.
42. Have you ever been to Disney's Star Wars Weekends at Walt Disney World?
The Lord Ruler is dead! And yeah, I recently read the books, as in a few months ago and it’s @nashidakyouko‘s fault, she rec’d them to me.
I love the story, the setting, and Vin. Sanderson’s world was really enjoyable. However, I’m hesitant to read the Wax and Wayne series bc there’s no Vin :P
