I love this SO MUCH
it just occurred to me that darth vader, master engineer, probably looked at the death star plans at some point and noticed the flaw, but didn’t bother to tell anyone about it because he despised everyone who was involved in the project
#krennic and tarkin: [die as a (indirect and direct, respectively) result of the death star’s flaw] #vader, who knew about that flaw and did nothing: unfortunate
“Unfortunate”
Meanwhile Vader, expert ace pilot, acts well below rank to supposedly fight off the attackers. Attackers who, as far as anyone else knows, can’t hope to do shit to the Death Star.
Convenient.
Convenient…
Lol there are some ppl on here all “oh he was feeling a little Light so he knew he had to destroy it to do the Right Thing!!!” like nah. I love my boy but he’s a bag of stinky garbagé at this point and still totally evil.
He just despised the Death Star cuz everyone was all “nyeh heh this thing can do ur job for u u LOSER” and he actively loathed every single person who was on board it. Of course he was petty enough to ignore its self-destruct button. He’s just that bitch.
this seems entirely reasonable sidebar: apparently thrawn treason is, like, mostly Krennic and Tarkin hating each other and i have never read a thrawn book but i might just read that one
Vader is high-key insulted by the existence of the Death Star, the effort and expense thrown into making it, and the way everybody’s praising it as the new ultimate power in the universe, and probably the worst part of the whole affair?
He has no one to bitch to about it.
Even the Emperor’s jumped on the superweapon hype train. Even the tolerably-competent officers like Tarkin are all #TeamDeathStar, and then there’s smug assholes like Admiral Motti who just won’t shut up about it, and honestly?
Vader’s probably been on the email CC list for the design since the project started. Years of enduring shitty design and interdepartmental bickering and watching some smarmy asshole in an inferior cloak prance about bloviating about his special superweapon like somebody who has an anime body pillow of the superlaser housing.
And then there’s this one scientist who keeps going on and on about this thermal exhaust problem.
Just. Huge amounts of emails on the subject, going on and on and on about it.
Vader is totally the only person who actually reads these after the first, like, five of them. Everybody else just skims through them with a side of “Seriously, Galen? Another one? Force-dammit, Krennic, couldn’t you have left him on that mudball with his family?” But Vader is bored out of his skull with 90% of his job anyway, and it’s not like he has anything better to do. Besides, viciously judging other people’s design abilities is the closest thing to pass for fun when there aren’t any Rebels to slaughter or armies to curbstomp, and there’s plenty of shit design for the judging.
He spots the flaw in the reactor the first time it appears in the plans.
He’d have shit himself if it wasn’t for the suit.
He promptly makes a bet with himself on whether anybody is going to spot it.
Nobody does.
They’re a pack of idiots. Every last one of them.
Maybe he contemplates telling them for like two-thirds of a second. It would be fun to lord his actual mechanical expertise over that little shit, Krennic.
But then he considers that he can only tell them once, and what if it were after the thing blew itself right the fuck up, what if that? He can still point out the flaw, and he can throw everyone’s stupidity right in their stupid faces, but also there’ll be no more Death Star.
So when Galen Erso sends out Thermal Exhaust Problem Analysis Report #6,109 and buried in paragraph 37 is a suggestion of an extra exhaust port, and Krennic responds with “SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT YOUR GODDAMN THERMAL EXHAUST PORT, GALEN, I DON’T GIVE A SHIT!” and Erso goes, “So you approve the solution?” and Krennic goes “S***** F*** LKJDGJFKL!!!!LJF$%#$DJF! YES!” Vader saves the email exchange for posterity and is downright cheerful the rest of the week.
True, he acts in its defense, chasing down Rebels when the plans are stolen. Of course he does. They’re Rebels, and hunting them down is his job and one of the very few pleasures of his existence. But it’s not for the Death Star. In fact, if one of them were to escape with its plans, and hide them successfully, and keep their location secret through torture and worse, and if another of them were to fly a starfighter well enough to keep from being destroyed long enough to drop a torpedo through that vulnerable exhaust port and touch off that reactor instability and turn the whole massive, ridiculous, wasteful, absurd, and vaguely insulting contraption into so much spacedust …
… well …
… oops.
Vader’s only regret about the whole affair is that Krennic predeceased it and is therefore unavailable for gloating to.
It doesn’t stop him from snagging a copy of the Rebels’ footage of the Death Star blowing up and posting it anonymously to the holonet with the added caption “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.”
What makes this whole thing better is that the comics ( Darth Vader Annual 2 to be precise) backs this theory up
The Annual literally starts with Tarkin arriving on Scarif, only to find Vader had broken into the archive and was just casually studying the Death Star plans
Then later on, he literally says THIS to Tarkin
Vader is the pettiest fucker who hates EVERYTHING to do with his coworkers and the Death Star and I LOVE it
You know, I usually hate these exhaust port conversations, but I think it actually works here.
Because the entire point of the exhaust port is how absurd a long shot it is. If you can survive flying through a narrow trench lined with turrets while in an active dogfight long enough, then you might get close enough to attempt a shot your computers are literally incapable of making.
No matter how many times it gets brought up, no one is going to put time and energy into addressing this, because no reasonable person would consider this an actual vulnerability.
But we’re not talking about a reasonable person.
We’re talking about Anakin “I destroyed a droid control ship from the inside piloting a fighter I had never seen before when I was ten years old” Skywalker.
He sees those plans, and immediately knows how he would take down the Death Star.
Who cares that a computer couldn’t make that shot? It’d be easy, if you use the Force.
You know, the Force? That thing all you Imperial officers are calling superstitious nonsense?
Yes, well… I guess we’ll just see how this plays out.
Reblogging to make this easier to find again.
Sick list of symptoms bro. Now try humanizing your behavior instead of pathologizing it.
Pathologizing: Hey sorry I yelled at you. I have this ADHD symptom called RSD that makes me really sensitive.
Humanizing: Hey, I’m sorry that I blew up like that earlier. In the moment I felt really attacked and overwhelmed and I reacted badly, but I know you didn’t mean to offend me with what you said, so that behavior is on me.
Because I just saw a post bitching about this one, I want to add: this post is saying that you need to take accountability for the way you hurt other people, even if it happens because of a symptom of your disability/illness. It's also saying that using terms (especially acronyms) that aren't common knowledge isn't a helpful way to explain yourself. It is NOT saying that you need to let people walk all over you because "your disability isn't an excuse."
If you're diabetic, you don't have to eat the honey glazed ham that will send you into a coma (their example). But you also can't yell at the person offering it and accuse them of trying to kill you. You can just say "thanks, but my body can't handle that kind of sugar intake, so I'll pass"
If you run over someone's foot with your wheelchair you still apologise
was explaining missing episode reconstructions to someone the other day and i basically said "there's some episodes that are missing because the bbc threw out the tapes so only the audio and some still photos exist and if you want to watch that episode you have to watch a reconstruction which is basically a glorified powerpoint presentation with the original audio underneath basically trying to replicate what the episode probably looked like" and they said "wow that's really cool that people reconstructed them like that so you can still experience the story even without the original video" and you know what? they were completely right, that is so fucking cool. i think we take reconstructions for granted in this fandom and they are actually so awesome and it's such an interesting part of our community. like obviously it would be nice if we still had all the original episodes and didn't need reconstructions but still, it's a really unique and cool thing we have as doctor who fans
They’re calling it the gif of all time
June 26, 2026.
Summer continues to be terrible for me. This is why winter is my favorite.
When I was a kid, summer was terrible. You'd think that a queer kid in the middle of nowhere Nebraska would be fucking glad to get out of the queerphobic hellscape that is a country school, but my home life was similarly shitty, and at least school fed me.
This summer started off with the death of a friend.
I met her nearly a year ago, when I first showed up to an SCA event. A lot of people in the SCA are retirees, and she was no different.
(It wasn't always this way. But we are an aging society, as she would always put it, and there's now a lot less kids and a lot more grey hair.)
She made me feel welcome. She invited me to our barony's choir. She told stories of the barony and kingdom in years past. She told stories of people long gone. She told stories of people still here. She invited me to join her and a group at her house once a month for dinner. She bought me dinner on my birthday. She gave me a standing invitation to drop by whenever. She showed me old movies. She gave me my feast gear after I helped her with her garage sale, and offered to let me buy fabric off of her for half what she would have sold it to anyone else. And she listened, when I talked about my thesis work, for nearly two hours.
She was having symptoms of heart attacks, for months. And she died the night before her cardiologist appointment, because her doctors didn't take it seriously. Because the symptoms of heart attacks are different in women than in men (I would say this differently if I knew exactly what caused it. I would say "people with an estrogen-dominant hormonal system" or whatever, if that was the defining factor. But I don't actually know if HRT affects it, or if it's something else. So please excuse my clunky language, and go memorize the "female heart attack symptoms" even if you are not a woman, or even if you're not AFAB, or even if you think you'll never need it. Because maybe someday you'll make friends with a senior citizen and not even realize that you're slowly watching her heart kill her).
Her will was not finalized. It took weeks for anyone to even publish an obituary, and it was the kind of bland everyman obituary that gets published when the funeral home doesn't know what else to do and the person's got no blood relatives left. There was no funeral. The old will, that she wrote up while I was still knee high to a grasshopper, had an executor that wants nothing to do with the mess that is her estate, and the will she meant to have ready is nowhere to be found. So everything just. Sits.
The only thing she had ready was what to do with her body. She's been cremated, and her ashes have been spread everywhere she wanted them spread. A friend took in her cats, because no one could figure out where they were supposed to go. I got the fabric she set aside for me, even though I hadn't actually paid her for it yet. And everything else simply sits.
It feels like such an anticlimactic end to what was a person brimming with personality. In my family, obituaries are fucking sacred. That's what I keep coming back to. That bland, impersonal obituary.
There's a hole in the barony that everyone is simply moving around and rarely acknowledging. I'm beginning to realize that this barony is full of these holes where people used to be, that everyone is just so used to moving around them that a new one just... adds to the Swiss cheese that used to be our barony. I just came around after they were already gone.
And I had about a week to grieve, and then I got so unbelievably sick.
I had bronchitis again. For three weeks. And then I finally got on antibiotics. I finished those two or three weeks ago, and I'm finally beginning to feel like a person again. It's amazing how un-person-like you feel when you can't fucking breathe. Forget heart or brain, your soul is stored in your fucking lungs.
Which means that now I'm starting to grieve again. Now that I can feel something other than fucking sick. Yesterday was the annual scroll cover making, which means it's been a year, give or take, since the first time I showed up.
Anyway, go get involved in your local clubs and societies. Go get involved in the SCA, if medieval stuff appeals to you (we have fighting, arts and sciences, royalty...). Go find something that's mostly old people, trying to keep skills alive, and bring in your young friends, and make old friends, and learn to keep things going.
In the next decade, we'll probably see a lot of clubs and societies start to fall apart. We already are. You have to go get involved in fun stuff in your area, if you want to keep having fun stuff in your area. People complain about the removal of free public spaces? You have to go be involved, so that there's other people with you when you need to push back against the closing of a library, because that's where your club meets every week, damnit.
It is not enough to simply wish public libraries would stay open because you think they're important for the public. You are the public. Go get involved. It doesn't have to be an activist group. It can be the SCA. It can be a group that helps old people with taxes. It can be a group that trains dogs. Just find one thing in your area that meets regularly, and go.
I have nothing to add. Take Mouse's advice, the next 901 days and every day after that. He's been right so far.
There’s an episode of Sesame Street (on Netflix! you can watch it easily!) where Elmo attends a toy-swap, where you offer up old toys you don’t play with anymore and receive someone else’s toys that are new to you. Cute!
But Elmo, after cheerfully surrendering his old toys, sees that the children who swapped toys with him are playing with his toys “wrong”! They’re imagining entirely different make believe scenarios! They’re pretending the football is a dinosaur egg instead of a rocket ship! Aaahhhhh!!!! And this is so distressing to poor Elmo that he does the unthinkable: He does swapsies-backsies and takes all his toys back!
This being Sesame Street, he learns that you can’t control how other people play pretend, but you can join in if you want to! And if you don’t want to, that’s ok, you can just play pretend your own way by yourself or with someone else who wants to play that way too. You can still be friends with people who play pretend differently than you (and aren’t being mean/harmful/etc, do not bad-faith-read this 🤨).
Anyway this is a post about fandom.
"What chance do we have? The question is what choice?"
The Truman Show dir. Peter Weir (1998)
You’re completely correct. Out of my way, able-bodied losers. Fuck you.
It's called an EZRide+ and you can learn where to find them here. They're about $1100 US as of June 2026, but you might need to buy additional parts to attach them to your chair, depending on the style of chair.
Remember to put links to products like this, they're usually hard to find and a lot of people need to know they exist.

Haunted house horror movie where the humans are house flippers and the audience is rooting for the ghost to kill them before they tear down all crown molding and paint all the wood.
deluding myself into believing that actually the writers saw the undeserved hate audiences have been giving korra since the show and decided to play with it in seven havens. yeah. that one shot of her looking evil is going to turn out to be from the perspective of an unproven story about her. anti-korra propaganda became a huge issue by the end of her life and not even a final sacrifice could right her in the eyes of the public. right guys? guys? wait where are you going
everyone being like “yeah that’s obviously what it is” i have been burned by tv writers too many times before i need to be careful
One of my favorite things about Put Baby In Pelican Mouth is that not only does the pelican have the intelligence necessary to speak human language but also knows how to lie, suggesting it has a theory of mind, yet not enough to understand that no one is going to put baby in pelican mouth.
To be entirely fair to the pelican, I have seen humans do much, much dumber things with their infants. The park rangers in Louisiana ha e to regularly tell people to not put their babies on the ground next to the gators for a pic.
In fact, it could be argued that the peculiar grammar used by the pelican in the Put Baby In Pelican Mouth post is deliberate, like how phishers use major grammar errors in their messages so that people too smart for the scam (or smart enough to report them) ignore the emails and the scammer can focus on the most likely marks.
Regardless, the pelican is right: there is absolutely someone dumb enough to put a baby in its mouth because it asked politely. Probably dozens on that beach alone.
Put baby in pelican mouth for Instagram photo. Facebook photo of baby in pelican mouth for many likes and also happy asleep baby. So cute baby in pelican mouth for video on TikTok. We feed the rich to the poor, maybe.
WE USE THE RICH’S MONEY TO FEED THE POOR
Well, gee...you're no fun...
you eat the rich they fear for a day. You take their money and you force them to face their own humiliation for violating the social contract over and over and over.
