Drakuru
Look, he killed THOUSANDS of void elfs… since last Wednesday.
Top 10 of the most interesting final bosses
For a lovable anon. I asked “What final bosses?” Answer? All final bosses. Any kind. Dungeon, raid, questchain. Just the most interesting ones. So here we go.
10. Kel’thuzad - Don’t get me wrong here, Kelly surely is a very interesting character. But lore-wise he isn’t exactly the final final, and boss-wise, there are more interesting fights in Naxxramas. But still, Kel’thuzad made it up here.
9. Drakuru - Alright, this isn’t entirely fair. Drakkuru by himself isn’t any more interesting than your regular betraying NPC. But the quests? The quests were a damn wild ride from the start to the beginning. (Especially on that one private server where the gargoyle wasn’t mountable, so you had to follow it by yourself, and it refused to go any faster than walking speed. Good ol’ times.) I want his skull as a hat.
8. Exarch Maladaar - He was close to nobody back on Crusade, I admit that. But then you get to compare him with that alternate self on Draenor and... I am not sure how about you, but I cried. A lot. Maladaar also deserved better.
7. Cordana Felsong - We have seen her, we have met her. We have been there as she was falling apart. Damn, the preparation for her betrayal was amazing. I am always a slut for psychology in characters. And also Cordana is one of the few characters I gladly tore to pieces with my bare hands.
6. C’Thun - Listen, if your first Old God you meet decides to whisper to you the whole time you are in that damned raid (Fun story: I went to solo it at lvl 100, unknowing what all is there actually. Nearly got a heart attack when IT SPOKE TO ME) and then swallow you... well, you remember it. Honestly, I think that all Old Gods are quite interesting. But C’Thun was first and had creepy whispers.
5. Garrosh Hellscream - Okay, if I wanted to give you a full ramble on why Garrosh, we’d be here for a week at least. Garrosh is a bad person, and also a broken and interesting character, and I am going to leave it here like this, because I have a lot of conflicting feelings about this guy and you have already heard a lot of them.
4. Illidan Stormrage - Another problematic character that would deserve his own book (and he also got it). I might not be fond of him, but Illidan is a good final boss. The fight is epic. He gets his ultimate burn on Maiev. Illidan would have gotten higher in this post if he was actually final, but as the Legion has proven, this goth man isn’t done partying yet and diced to steal a prison. Maiev must be proud of him, she taught him that herself!
3. Arthas Menethil/Lich King - I mean, we were being prepared and groomed for this fight ever since Warcraft III. Arthas got himself decent lore with a tragedy of turning to Lawful Evil by trying his best as Lawful Good. The battle in ICC is quite epic and gave birth to a few internal memes and also the joke “Father, is it over?” “No, my son. The next Friday the ID will be reseted.” Lich King also has good lore, if you follow all the way from Ner’zhul to now, because obviously Bolvar isn’t leaving the stage (given he has freezed his ass to it, he can’t). The only shame here is that Blizzard didn’t save Arthas for later, because... Once you beat the shit out of the Lich King, then it’s clear not even the entirety of the Legion, not even that flaming stabby Sargeras can stop you.
2. Sargeras - Hallelujah! This guy has finally fucked away. How long do you think he will last there? I hope at least two expansions (+BfA), because Azeroth needs a break from demons for at least five minutes. Sargeras is another tragically broken character tempted to evil, but here mostly by his own doing and ignorance of those around him, so bonus points for originality here. Also that dud is flaming. And big. Speaking about it, surely the great evils are getting bigger and greater. It’s getting... quite puzzling. I mean, is there anything the Heroes can’t punch at this point?
1. Murozond - Oh good God, Light help me. Murozond. I am still so not fucking over this. I am not. And the worst part? Nozdormu knows. He knows when and how and why he dies. Jesus Christ, no. On the list of things that I don’t want to think abotu because it crushes me to realize, this one is at the very damn top.
Honorable mention: Mazoga - Okay, maybe you don’t remember this guy. In Tanaris he does the intro/lore quests to Zul’Farrak with the Jang’thraze and Sang’thraze swords. He “helps you” to get them only to ultimately betray you and take them both. While you have a fight together, he flees and gets killed by the Farakki Chieftain, so... Mazoga’s rank as a boss is a bit up to speculation, but he is a very interesting final. Especially because you get to meet his spirit wanting vengeance.
