Unfortunately, this is not a new Phantom releases post; this is another Stolen Material Shaming Post. Heads up if you’re an artist who may be affected.
The first one up there on the left is just someone’s misguided attempt to make money off of Lloyd Webber’s musical. Listed as The Phantom of the Opera: Original Screenplay by Charlene Kiser, it popped up on my list since I thought it was, you know, an original screenplay, only to discover that it was actually just the 2004 film’s screenplay repackaged. I’d say there was a chance this was innocent, except that the “author’s” other listings are all screenplays to popular movies that are still under copyright, so... not a good choice, is what I’m saying.
The rest of these... are our old friend, the Stolen Art Coloring Book genre. I once again couldn’t say for sure because I’m not psychic, but given that the descriptions on these use a lot of the same phrases as the ones from this one... it’s possible we’re dealing with one person who just keeps relisting coloring books after the last ones get reported.
1) Phantom of the Opera Coloring Book: Color Wonder Coloring Books for Adult Relaxation Stress Relieving
The cover is clipped from Dralamy’s piece Kiss the Phantom. Contents include:
Katikut’s piece Quick Phantom of the Opera Fanart
Supercluster-hong’s piece Phantom of the Opera, de-colorized
Katikut again, this time with Christine and Erik
There are six more images in the preview, but I wasn’t able to source them, so I couldn’t say if they’re originals or also stolen. (Although they vary pretty obviously in style, so... the odds don’t feel good.)
2) Phantom of the Opera coloring book: Activities Coloring Books for Adults and Kids Color to Relax
The cover is balltang’s piece Phantom of the Opera, and the hilarious part is that... the contents are actually identical to #1 above. Not only are these all stolen art, but they’re also clone, I guess so that unwary buyers might buy the same thing twice.
3) Phantom of the Opera coloring book: Amazing Coloring Books for Adults Relaxation and Stress Relief
The cover is onisakiakika’s piece Phantom of the Opera, which was ALSO stolen for the last round of these fraudulent coloring books. And the contents, no surprise, are once again exactly the same as the first two.
4) Phantom of the Opera coloring book: Stunning Coloring Books for Kid and Adult Stress Relieving
The cover is clipped from Katikut’s piece Phantom - Happy World Music Day, and I barely bothered checking at this point, but yes, it has the exact same contents in the preview.
One of the things that made tracking these pieces down a little harder this time is the fact that it looks like someone took the original pieces of stolen art, traced over them, and then used the traced versions - either because it would make it harder to identify them or out of some misguided belief that this would mean that it was okay to sell them now. I have no idea. Either way, they’re still extremely recognizable, just a little less sharp.
That’s all the time I want to spend on these bummer posts, but if you happen to know the artists and want to ping them notification so they can put in copyright claims, they might appreciate it!
