tl;dr - watch Healer if you haven’t already
hello all!!!
so i just finished rewatching healer for like, probably the fourth time (i lost count). and i’d just like to quickly re-recommend it. for like, the umpteenth time because it’s THAT GOOD!!! honestly, it has the perfect balance of suspense, action and ROMANCE of course. but more importantly, it has such a beautiful method of story-telling. all of the characters are fleshed out so well that they’re all relatable in one way or another-- even the villains. its plot is so intricate and so, so well executed in terms of the way it’s told, and the order in which it’s told. as you watch it, it’s like your’e uncovering more parts of the story that sucks you in and tugs at your heartstrings but also makes you feel warm and fuzzy and hopeful on the inside. i love absolutely everything about it, especially the relationship between the characters. of course, the romance between the main characters is one of the cutest, most organic relationship. for a lot of dramas, i feel the main leads just love each other because they’re supposed to, and they just have no qualms about falling fast and hard and doing everything dangerous and nonsensical for each other. a good number of dramas leave romance up to “fate” or even just “love at first sight.” it makes no sense!!! in healer, you really do see why they love each other. they’re so perfect for each other, and understand and appreciate other so much. you could see it from the way they interacted and conversed, and i love that the relationship deepened gradually. the romance is also not the only force that drives the plot. there’s also an entire backstory about justice and corruption in society, presented through the clash between journalism and politics. because the story is super complicated and involves basically two entirely different generations, you really get to see the the depth of relationships between all of the characters. the loyalty and love between the characters that are bonded by either friendship and family are incredibly strong, which makes you love how the characters love each other, if that makes sense.
i also love that the drama is so unconventional in a way, because there’s no love triangles, no noble idiocy (all “misunderstandings” are solved immediately because the characters are straightforward and have immense trust for each other), no unnecessary flashbacks (actually, there are so few that i really appreciate the director’s faith in the audience’s memory), no giant glaring loopholes, no forceful hand grabbing, and no weak female characters. the female characters in this drama are POWERFUL AND KICKASS AS HELL. they may not be the strongest physically, but they’re all so willful and admirable.
seriously i can’t say enough good things about this drama. i won’t spoil it for people who haven’t seen it. but just trust me that everything is just so good and YOU JUST NEED TO WATCH IT.
