Coming up next it the drama Big, a 2012 South Korean television series starring Gong Yoo and Lee Min-jung. The romantic comedy/body swap series aired on KBS2 from June 4 to July 24, 2012, on Mondays and Tuesdays for 16 episodes.Written by the Hong sisters, Big was Gong Yoo's first television series after The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince in 2007 and since being discharged from mandatory military service. Although the drama was initially well-received, it was later heavily criticized for its ending.
18-year-old Kang Kyung-Joon's spirit suddenly becomes transplanted in the body of 30-year-old Seo Yoon-Jae. Seo Yoon-Jae is a successful doctor and engaged to high school teacher Gil Da-Ran. Gil Da-Ran just so happens to be the teacher of 18-year old Kang Kyung-Joon.
I was hesitant to watch it due to the negative comments about ending and the story but then I decided to give it a try. After watching the first episode I was hooked. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Gong Yoo (Kang Kyung Joon) and Lee Min Jung (Gil Da Ran) they just worked very well together. And they just seem like a very goofy, fun, complicated couple. My main complaint about this drama was the last couple of episodes in where everything just seemed very repetitive about the situation they were in and then the way it ended just seemed very rushed. I just kind of wish there was a bit more episodes to explain exactly what happened or they should have wrapped up the drama more nicely. But overall I loved it, may re-watch episodes here and there... Loved the characters and will definitely be checking out more dramas with them in it.
The lead actors were charming and funny. The music was great and actually made me laugh a few times with some perfect cues. The story carried on seamlessly and I honestly have to disagree with it getting repetitive or boring. And, of course, the romance was my favorite part. It was very sweet, despite some angst-filled moments. But comedy dramas tend to start on an upbeat and then go through some heavy drama before the happy ending, like My Girl and Flower Boy Ramen Shop. In comparison, this one had even less angst.
We give this 3.5 out of 5 stars.
