Holy crap that's amazing that your dentist found something that numbs you! Is he secretly actually a god of some kind?
Y’know sometimes I wonder.
He’s also a huge dork. Him and his nurse were all clapping their hands and “woohooing” when we realized I had in fact gone completely numb. Cause he was drilling around my roots today and aside from the pressure of his hands on my jaw I didn’t feel a thing. And he even kept apologizing for that going “oh your poor jaw, I’m so sorry honey, someday soon it’s going to get a good rest, I promise”.
Then when he realized my surgery was going to be vastly easier than previously predicted (there was no deep interior damage! all surface! this is great news for my jaw!) he got all giddy and excited and did a little dance in his spinny chair, just beaming behind his mask the whole time as he worked, telling me what a great patient I was.
There was also a stretch where he wasn’t working with the drill, and had to actually hold my face in both his hands in order to get something to set because my mouth is too small for the tools he’d normally use. So he spent a good 15-20 mins just holding my head in his hands, trying to take the pressure off my neck while talking to me about his weekend which involved going to an award ceremony recognizing his mentor, who like, pioneered all this crazy stuff my magic dentist man does. And it’s while he’s holding my jaw in his hands he’s telling me in the softest tones like it’s a bedtime story, “I owe that man everything, he taught me how to help people, I can’t think of a greater gift.”
Like, what the fuck kind of saint, honestly.
Then when I was leaving he noticed my Avengers purse. It’s like a retro vintage thing that doesn’t quite look like the Avengers till you really look at it, and he is pointing at it and going “oh wow that’s so great, I love it, it’s so you. Superheroes for the superhero” then just walks off leaving me standing there wondering if it’s appropriate to give your dentist a Christmas present. And if so, how does one gift wrap the moon.
