Microfic: Wicked Games
Written for @drarrymicrofic June 4 prompt, 301 words, Rated G, inspired by the lines 'the world was on fire and no one could save me but you / it’s strange what desire will make foolish people do' many thanks to M and M for beta reading
Draco watches from the bar as Potter crashes about gracelessly to the music with the rest of their friends. The lights are low and multicolored, the bass so loud he can feel it in his chest. Even though he hasn’t had a drop of firewhisky all night he feels as though he’s burning up.
It should look ridiculous, Potter bouncing like a madman to some muggle song that’s wormed it’s way into Diagon Alley. It should be embarrassing, watching him flinging both Ginevra Weasley and — Merlin — Pansy around the dancefloor. All three of them shrieking lyrics about not looking back, shutting up, and dancing. It should look ridiculous and stupid and embarrassing. But it doesn’t. It looks wild, and free, and though Draco will not admit it even on pain of death, it looks fun.
It’s then that Potter looks over to where he’s sitting, locks eyes, and points to him. Draco, surprised, does a stupid little wave and immediately wants to kick himself for it. Potter simply laughs — or it looks like he does, it’s far too loud to tell — and shimmies his hips in a way that shouldn’t be — no, isn’t, enticing and mouths along to the song “Shut up and dance with me!” He pulls his arms back in, goes back to jumping about with the others, but the invitation is clear.
Despite the fact that Draco is far too sober for this, and will have to handle the mortification of remembering in the morning, he finds himself slipping off his barstool and making his way through the crowd. He’ll think about what it means later, but tonight he’s content to let himself look foolish and feel carefree, lit by neon and a smile that matches his own when Potter grabs his hips.
