|| Send me 😰 for a glimpse at one of my muse's nightmares! ||
The buildings lie in shambles around her on the city street, once upon a time, this was probably part of some market, or a downtown entertainment district, now, it’s just another war zone.
She’s hidden behind what’s left of a store front, hiding behind a few shelves and counters stacked on top of each other while she pokes her head up to spot enemies and take shots out of the store front window, Briareos is hidden near another wall that’s been chewed up by bullets and mangled by mortars.
Deunan pokes her head up one more time and she spots a sniper, getting ready to take another shot into the store, she crouches down, and turns to her partner, making hand signals. Briareos nods, and gives her a thumbs up before slids his goggles over his face and aims his rifle out the door. He takes the shot, boom, no more sniper.
That should be it, Deunan can’t see any more enemies, that was her specialty, spotting enemies no one else could.
He comes up from behind a blown out car, a grenade launcher in hand as he launches it at the store front. The blast misses, but the impact sends Deunan flying back, and part of the foundation begins to crumble.
“Deunan look out!” She hears Briareos shout.
As she gets up to see chunks of the ceiling about to fall on her, Briareos’ might hand pushes her away and she falls onto the floor, the rubble falls on Briareos instead. The man crumbles to the floor, grunting, groaning in pain. She gets up and tries to help him, but something is wrong, this isn’t just from the ceiling falling on him.
Briareos’ body begins to pulse and shift and buckle, his skin peels off and beneath it is not muscle or flesh but wires and circuitry. He continues to writhe in agony, his hair falls out, and two large antennae protrude from where his ears used to be. Deunan steps back, cupping her hands over her mouth, whether she is trying not to scream, or resist the urge to vomit at the sight of whatever is happening to her beau, she isn’t sure.
The thing that was Briareos rises from the spot, he’s a hulking machine, with five glowing red optics glaring at her, and a mouth with large metal fangs baring down on her.
She falls on the floor, backing away from this mechanical monster. He roars, and lunges at her.
This is usually the part where Deunan wakes up in a cold sweat. Her chest heaving and eyes wide in terror. She looks to her side, Briareos is asleep, he’s a cyborg, not a monster, and beneath all that metal, he’s still Briareos, she just has to keep reminding herself of that...
