Still Life Drawing (18 x 24)
Graphite and Charcoal
February 17th 2025
Today's drawing class we did some gesture drawing. Felt like we got about zero guidance on what we were doing. Instructor did an example but the whatever-they-call-those-camera-things-that-replaced-overhead-projectors was so zoomed in as to be unusable.
So here's me doing two bits of flailing about.
Bear in mind that I am starting from as close to zero as humanly possible. I haven't ever really drawn anything and was not encouraged to draw as a child.
Holy shit I got picked for my Spring Art Exhibit!!! I didn’t think I would get picked. 😭😭😭
Ahhh I keep forgetting to post on Sketchy Saturday! Curse my hubris for trying to do a scheduled thing...have two today, for missing so often lately 😅
Featured here: a continuous contour piece from my Drawing I class sketchbook - referenced from a beautiful sculpture, Finding Calm in Chaos by Sarah Hahn!
[ID: a traditional pencil sketch of the sculpture mentioned above. It is a woman's head in profile, emerging upward from a tangle of vines. She has a peaceful expression on her face. end ID]
2018 Summary of (Digital) Art
Meant to post this one for New Year’s… whoops
It’s been quite a year and I can’t thank you enough for sticking around! Thank you so much for your support 🖤

Art Professors
I don’t know what it’s like at other universities but at my school the art professors are a bunch of pompous jerks. They treat us like children by telling us that we’re not allowed to use our phones in the building, listen to music or talk to people. On top of that today I was helping to load some of the pieces for the performance one of my classes is going to over the weekend and I got there after everyone started loading and I was trying to figure out where my group was and I tried going in the back door of our usual classroom (which was wide open) and the professor starts yelling at me like I was tearing apart someone’s canvas that I couldn’t go in there instead of being like
“Oh yeah, your class is working in the hallway, and you can’t really cut through because we’re having class right now sorry.”
THEN I headed down with one of our pieces to put with the rest of the stuff and I didn’t know where it went so I headed to the truck and my professor yells at me
“I don’t even want to see you if you’re not carrying the other pieces”
Instead of something like
“Oh we aren’t loading those yet! You should put it in the hallway.”
I told my mom about it and she recommend if it happened in the future to say “You don’t need to talk/treat me like this.”
Even though that’s going to be hard because of my anxiety I think it’s important to remember to set boundaries with everyone, even if they’re in a higher position of power than you, especially since talking to a professor (especially one that isn’t yours) is a pretty low risk situation because its not like there’s much they can do to you
So consider this when you have to deal with rude people
