It's not close to done as far as marking everything but it at least is giving me something to look at and better develop my world and ocs I got going on.
Plus it'll help me visualize backstories and such better and give me an idea of the basics of things. And as I better my worldbuilding I'll add more cities/towns/marks etc.

Got inspired by maps I saw on deviantArt to do one of my own again, on that sketchpad we bought from Hobby Lobby last month, figured it would be a nice quick thing to do after the past couple drawings that were absolute slogs. Unfortunately, things got kind of... messy with the lining as originally, I was just going to erase the pencil marks once I was done outlining everything to do the lines over it with a Micron pen. But I liked the pencil lining once I was done so I kept it, until when I really filled in the colors. That's when I decided, at the last minute, to use pen anyway but the Micron pens could barely etch in over the pencil lines. So I had to use a Pilot G-2 instead which mostly worked but it's still a mess, especially with the labels.
Basically, this is a map of Costa Rica as it exists in APW, an island nation stuck between Nicaragua (part of the Greater Republic of Central America) and Panama, a state in the Estados Unidos de Colombia. Basically, it's the Costa Rica we're familiar with combined with all of Panama west of the canal so the nation as a whole has more landmass and citizens than the one in our wonderful, horrible timeline. Also, there's Isla Nubes and Isla Matanceros in the lower left corner, as kind of an on-the-nose reference to the islands in the Jurassic Park franchise. The whole concept behind this was reading about the Central American Seaway and how the closing of it contributed to the development of the polar ice caps (in addition to Australia's and Antarctica respective continental drift) and I certainly love to give the Ice Ages the middle finger.
It certainly would be interesting to look into how this might affect Spanish colonization, the circumnavigation of the globe, and the revolutions that swept Latin America after Napoleon's army occupied the Iberian peninsula.
Also, on one last note, the messed-up labels that are hard to see are: Lago Nicaragua (that big crater lake), the Costa Rican towns/cities Liberia, Heredia, Puerto Limon, Cartago, and Penonome, the Bocas del Toro Archipelago, and Isla San Jose.
Fantasy Map - Great Avalon
- Commission Info
Great Avalon is a world of rebirth, risen from the ashes bigger and better than ever before.Originally three separate continents with a wealth of islands to go with them, the planet of Avalon had been ruled by a majestic dragon species who were blessed with great power and knowledge to harness Nature and its many facets. With humanity as their servants, it appeared the empire would soar to ever new heights. However the humans, weaker but far greater in number, rose up against their masters and a terrible rebellion broke out that drowned the world into war, and destroyed all in its wake. Shining cities, thriving communities of both sides, libraries and temples burnt along with the greatest knowledge gathered through millennia. After decades of senseless violence, it is said that a great white star descended from the heavens and brought about the end of the world, before its denizens could. The three continents surged and collided into one by its will. A horrible chain events of cataclysm forever reshaped the face of the planet that would hide itself in a cloud of ash and cloud and snow for what seemed an eternity. The age of war was followed by an age of silence. But life finds a way, and it eventually returned to this vastly different world. Humanity rose from the ashes, though not alone: six different dragon species emerged with them, all carrying the gift of sentience and knowledge with them. Green appeared once more on the fields of Great Avalon, and history began anew.

My first ever fantasy map! I would love to hear your thoughts, I want to get better at it!
It is not done yet, I still need to figure out the actual political map of this thing with countries and cities n stuff. But since I can't get anything else done this godforsaken week because of work, I figured I upload the geographical version.
It took me quite some time to put it together. Not only to figure out the exact visual style I wanted to go after, but I also did my absolute best to create realistic biomes and climates, based on an Earth-like rotation and axial tilt. Great Avalon is mostly located on the northern hemisphere. I looked up all manners of videos on the topic, before I tried to place wind patterns, ocean currents and the resulting biomes. It was a ssssuper long process since I also did my best to actually understand the system behind it. I am sure it is riddled with mistakes, but still, I am very happy with how this mega-continent turned out!

TINEY MAP
Oh my I lost everything I wrote cause I don’t know how to keep my hands from the trackpad! Anyways my clumsy ass on the side, here’s a small (as in literally small) attempt at using mountains in a map, they look ok ish? I want to think so at least. Most of my maps tend to incorporate long island chains, personally I feel they are really pretty, but that’s prob my nostalgic ass thinking of Chiloe (I would also say Norway since it also has that geography but lets face it, my poor ass ain’t going there any time soon heh)
Anyways yeah I’m like a huge mapping nerd, the amount of paper I’ve used drawing maps is kinda silly being frank.
Map of Taun, drawn in April 2015. Due to be redrawn.
