Everyone wants to feel like they’re doing the right thing, or at the very least, not out getting lost doing something nobody’s done before. That’s reasonable—it’s why we have roads rather than lots of random paths, schools rather than teaching ourselves, metaphorical maps for life rather than being left to our own whims. But it’s also really hard to do anything that’s really OURS if we do what’s always been done before. . We may not need to draw completely new maps, but we do need to be willing to follow our own paths rather than the ones others foist on us (with or without our consent). If everything we do is just like what everyone else does, none of it is ours—and none of it reflects us. Go draw your own map where it makes the most sense to do so. It doesn’t have to be everything (some paths are well worn for a reason!), but make sure you find your own way at least some of the time. Everyone needs to break some new ground in their own way. . . . . . posted on Instagram - http://bit.ly/2KkAlSt
