Dr. Brainwash @ Maddox Gallery
Dr. Brainwash a.k.a Thierry Guetta is a French filmmaker and street artist. I am particularly intrigued by his work as Guetta creates his own form of art which mixes pop art and graffiti by using contemporary iconography and retro pop art images as the foundation of his art works, along with very vibrant palettes (this showing his clear influence from Andy Warhol). Along with creating rather chaotic yet very detailed and well crafted works, Guetta is able to embed cultural contexts within his art - a feature in which I try follow myself as an artist.
Another key feature of Geutta’s style is paint drips, something in which i have explored and experimented with in my own work. In the future I would like to experiment and explore using graffiti in my work and also possibly creating some of my own stencils, in which I can experiment with using different materials.
