Così così...
I wish I could write on this that my first day of lectures was amazing, but in all honesty today's been one of those days when I wonder why I even left the house. Didn't even want to wake up this morning as I'd stayed up late night stressing myself out and all day I've just felt a bit... crappy?
The first lecture I went to was "Storia dell'Europa"... why did I think it was a good idea to leave my lovely bed to attend this class? From the first sentence when the lecturer started muttering quickly in Italian (he had a microphone, why didn't he use it?), I knew I shouldn't have been there. I sat there for 1 hour and 10 minutes with the sun scorching me through the open window (why oh why did I pick today to wear jeans? Fuck you Google weather forecast), from time to time hearing the words "Stati Uniti", "guerra fredda", and "something something secolo". Epic fail. Emerged from the class confused, disappointed, covered in sweat, hungry and grumpy (I hadn't eaten breakfast or had my morning caffè). What possessed me to go in the first place? I find history too difficult at the best of times! I guess it's lucky that we have two weeks to go to different classes and see what they're like before we need to choose.
Other than that, the day got slightly better (the high point was my caffè and a chocolate croissant). And a couple of the English Literature classes seem manageable - maybe it's best that I take it easy this semester and leave the more difficult classes for when I'm more settled in next semester. There was also an Italian Language class but it was for Italian people... I'm not sure if I'm quite there yet...
One thing I'll never get used to are that lectures are an hour and a half long and running from 08.30 - 19.00. Maybe I took Strathclyde for granted?
Oh and the "speaking only Italian" thing isn't going quite as well as I hoped, but we're starting light - texting in Italian and speaking Englitalian.
All in all just one of those days when you're way too hard on yourself and you really wish you had a Steven to turn to (18 days and counting).
