Tips for before you dread your hair & new dread heads!!!
Hi there I need dread advice!! How long did you go with out washing your hair?? And how did you keep them in?? Did you use wax?? What is your opinion of wax?? I know too much wax can keep your dreads from maturing and I don't want that but I was thinking just a bit of knotty boy wax all over but mostly just on my ends would be good?? How did you keep yours in?? Also where can I find a big enough shower cap?? :) thanks for your help and or your consideration and time to read this if you don't.
hey dear!
i went the natural/free form route. i quit brushing and conditioning my hair. i still washed it regularly, whenever it got greasy. i used/use organic shampoo, was once using baking soda and apple cider vinegar rinses. i used no wax. i don’t know much about it, other than i heard it can keep your hair from dreading.
honestly don’t think you need wax. the more you leave your hair alone, the more it’ll do its thing. the dreads i left alone and didn’t try to fix along the way look WAY better than the ones i frequently tried to fix and maintain. i know their fun to touch, but try to not force them to lock up, if you feel me
your hair will loosen up first, then lock up. if your dreads seem like they are coming undone, wait a few days and leave em be before you start trying to fix them. can take up to 6 months for them to start to look like dreads, hence your dread journey (;
i liked my ends not blunted, but longer and wispy so i didn’t use wax or anything, just left them be.
im not sure a shower cap is necessary, you still want to wash them regularly. i usually just put my hair in a high bun so it wouldn’t get wet if i wasn’t washing them
visit dreadlockinfo.tumblr.com for more info, thats where i researched before i started letting my hair go (:
happy dreading ~ <3
