I BEEN YELLING ABOUT THAT NEWS ALL MORNING
I’M. LITERALLY SO EXCITED.
EVELYN || @dreamaboutdeadguys Plotted His Dark Materials Starter! - - -
“Supposing she can’t open it?”
“Of course she’ll open it! This is Evy we’re talking about.”
Jonathan strode along cheerfully towards his younger sister’s tiny office, giving a nod to one of the museum staff in greeting. They raised a hand in return, knowing him quite well, but nevertheless they and their daemon- an Egyptian Vulture- eyed him warily as he passed by. Jonathan took no mind.
“If there’s nothing inside it...” His own ferret daemon said, shaking her head as she rode along on his shoulder. She was interrupted, however, by a shushing sound and a waved hand.
“Adonia, we don’t think that way, remember? Besides, with the uproar that the chap who lost it made when he realised it was gone, there’s got to be something of value inside!”
Jonathan had tried a dozen times over to open the puzzle box, twisting it this way and that, pressing things, slotting things into what seemed like the right place only to have it stuck, unwilling to move any further forward but backwards only. He’d even briefly considered smashing the thing until his daemon wisely convinced him not to, and they’d conceded that perhaps they needed a particular bit of help with it...
He ducked his head around the doorway, already flashing a warm smile in the hopes of charming Evy into figuring it out.
“Anybody home?”
EVELYN || @dreamaboutdeadguys Liked for a starter! - - -
Egypt was terribly hot, and to make matters worse it was only accessible by boat or plane if one didn’t want to make a very long trek of it, but both of these options were undesirable in Poirot’s eyes. Still, he had been before, and the striking beauty of the ruins made up for the journey somewhat.
That and the successful completion of an unexpected murder case among the dunes.
He couldn’t help overhearing the conversation going on just behind him, it was his way to notice these things. Poirot turned, waiting for the young woman to finish her conversation, especially as it seemed quite animated. As he caught her eye he gave a little smile and a reached up to tip his hat politely.
“Oh, excuse me mademoiselle, but you are a Carnahan, non? I believe I saw the name dedicated at the museum in Cairo. You perhaps are one of the Carnahan’s mentioned there?”
EVELYN || @dreamaboutdeadguys continued from here ! - - -
Jonathan scowled as she pinched his cheek like one of their distant batty old aunts, flapping a hand uselessly at her until she released him again. And she was wearing That Look. The one which equated to those four little words he hated to hear, yet she managed to say so often, which really wasn’t fair in the slightest!
“Evie, the women I meet outside of gambling are not cut out for the Carnahan lifestyle, it wouldn’t be fair to let them get tangled up with me. I’m doing them all a favour!”
He grinned at her, the point he’d made only half joking. It was true! Their family name was well known in the circles of academics and explorers, and they did have a rather bad habit of getting themselves into dangerous situations...besides which, he found most women in ‘suitable’ circles rather lacking in excitement, a thought he didn’t dare say out loud but which he was sure Evie knew already.
“Mark my words, one day a girl will stay on my arm even if all my cards are useless. That sort of girl is a keeper.”
CLOSED STARTER FOR EVELYN O’CONNELL. @dreamaboutdeadguys !! sc.
“ Honey, what have I told you about getting on the ladder? ” Rick’s standing right behind her, looking up, eyebrows furrowed. Usually, he let her do as she pleased, but seeing as how Evelyn was well into her third trimester, he has become a tad too overprotective. “ If you need anything, find me and I’ll get it for you. You’re in no condition to be going straight for the top shelves nowadays. ”
@dreamaboutdeadguys for Rick O’Connell: "sometimes, a girl just wants to have fun."
The laugh which leaves Rick’s lips is an open, light-hearted sound, the sway in his step a bit too pronounced, but then again — so was hers. What a lovely night it was, warm with stars shining bright overhead; it felt like a crime leaving the gala for the newest exposition in the British Museum by a car. So they opted to take a stroll back home, both light and giddy from dancing and just enough champagne to leave them pleasantly tipsy.
“ That so? What kind of fun are we talking about? ” Rick’s goading her just a little bit, wanting to see more of her fire and bravery and everything that made him fall for Evelyn in the first place.
"why are you banging your head against the wall?" [for jonathan ofc!!]

“Because I had it, Evy! I had the opportunity of a lifetime in my own two hands and I bally well dropped it in the Nile!”
Not on purpose, of course. He’d been so close! The boat had been heading steadily for the dock and Jonathan stood at the railing with his prize, admiring the way it glinted in the sun. But the problem was that a bloody ambitious crow had also been admiring it, swooping down and scaring the living daylights out of him as it cawed and flapped away from his waving hands.
And then they’d been empty, about as empty as Jonathan felt inside when he heard the telltale splash that followed.
