❛ &. ┊ The bags are already packed, hands folding one last shirt to place inside the suitcase before it’s eventually closed. It’s no big luggage – a backpack with all necessities for the long flight, the anthracite coloured suitcase that fits just enough outfits for about a month, and the faux leather attache that Emerson bought her the summer prior to this discussion; auburn-coloured. They fit your shoes, she’d said. The ones you wear with your grey suit. It feels so long ago now, fingertips fumbling with the zipper and carrying all her things to the apartment’s entrance. Three years of marriage and they’re already here, Emerson uttering vague suppositions and she, she’s too tired to even respond.

She already wears her shoes. Only the coat still hangs on the hallstand. “ You need some space to find yourself, I understand. And I happen to be needed in Novosibirsk. ” It sounds as shallow as it feels, although Emerson was ( if only physically ) present when the call was taken. But I pray that I can buy you a ticket once I’m done with the case and have a second honeymoon with you in Moscow. ” A pause as she reaches for the maroon-coloured overcoat. “ I love you. But if my love doesn’t make you happy, I’m not forcing you to stay. I booked a spa day later today for you. If you want to, you can call me in the evening and tell me if it was any good. ”
