i just found one of your stories on ao3 by a tag and noticed it had a chapter left and hadn't be updated in a while, and that your last post was around the same time. are you still writing? do you think you'll come back? most importantly though, i hope you're okay!
Thank you for reaching out! I’m okay for the most part, but writing has been a struggle, largely because of work. For a while I was working an absurd amount of overtime and just didn’t have the energy for anything else after work. Since then, even though my overtime requirements have been less, work has still been very draining. I got a promotion a couple months ago and as much as I still love my job, this position adds another layer of mental fatigue and makes it hard to refocus on the fun things that I want to do with my free time (mainly writing).
In general, I learned from past experience that I shouldn’t post fics unless they’re finished or if I “know for sure” that I’m gonna finish them. The exception to that is LCDG because I started that fic 15 years ago now (yikes…) so it predated that rule 😅 That said, I still have a couple unfinished fics, like the one that brought you here, and in those cases the fics are finished in my brain, I know how they’re supposed to finish, it’s simply a matter of finding the time and energy to get those thoughts down on paper (or on my computer).
I know that’s hard to hear as a reader, that the fic you want to finish reading is finished in the author’s head and they just haven’t had the chance to post it yet. And trust me when I say it’s just as frustrating for me as well 😅 I want nothing more than to finish those fics and post a finished product that I’m proud of and readers enjoy (hopefully lol). I miss the days where I had a spare moment (or several) at work where I could write fic then, but my responsibilities now just don’t allow for that extra time.
With a couple other responsibilities I have in my life hopefully concluding in the next couple months, I’m optimistic that I’ll feel that creative spark and start writing again with the newly freed up time and mental bandwidth. But that’s the best I can offer at the moment.
Thank you again for reaching out!
