precursor from a side account + notes about harassment one + two + three + four + five + six + seven + eight + nine

Here's the screenshots of the whole conversation. The precursor screenshot shows them approaching me for commercial rights for a Dreamy on a side account. Between this conversation (March 4th 2021) and the note about harassment (April 19th 2021) they decided to disregard what I asked and commission a Dreamy lookalike from an unrelated artist. The TL;DR with these in the same context without stretching the page:

I am approached about harassment, and because I had seen the design prior to being contacted, I lashed out inappropriately.

They ask me what changes I'd be happy with.

I explain my stance (at the time) about commercial rights vs. CS.

Their response is that they're not claiming it as a Dreamy so it's fine.

They respond again with their stance on uniqueness and recycled concepts.

I explain my side and emphasize that our opinions of right and wrong will always clash, and that I found their behavior selfish. This was out of line.

They come back after a while has passed with an apology and admit there was no harassment toward them directly, but the artist they commissioned to draw a Dreamy-lookalike (who didn't know what Dreamies were, or that they were drawing based on something that wasn't the commissioner's).

I explain why specifically they still looked alike in my eyes and cited some other species that shared traits with Dreamies without looking like them. (Censored the names/owners due to the nature of this blog, I don't want to bring anything weird to them.) I clarified here that I'd not received actual proof of any harassment.

They admit no harassment transpired at all, and agree to change the Dreamy.

So, if we set aside the (really unfortunate) ranting I did that wasn't necessary to find a resolution in this situation, the only reason they ever found out how I felt is because they approached me directly about an issue that didn't exist. I had zero intention of contacting them, even if I was upset.

I could have handled this better, absolutely. I'm upset with myself that I didn't just outright state what would have made me happy to be changed, because I was too angry about feeling disrespected.

Contact about this situation didn't continue after these screens as far as I recall, or if it did, it was through a different person/account and they can post that if they want.

So besides the cringe note umbrel wind was innocent. There's a lesson here anons don't lie to try to get others to shit on someone especially when that person can provide evidence of your lie to blow your asshole wide open.

What hurts artists is not allowing anyone to do anything without someone else’s express permission that’s not taking what’s yours or hurting you in any way. Everyone can use ideas and do what they want with them. Unless they are claiming it as their own and directly copying everything, which evidently they aren’t as they said they weren’t using the canon lore, then it’s not affecting you. Also people overuse Dracula but still make it unique *cough* castlevania
