Here’s the thing about Charlie Kirk.
I operate on “violence should not be your first resort, and when it is used, should not target noncombatants or bystanders. If there is no way around collateral damage (which is incredibly rare, but possible), then steps should be taken to minimize it.”
We tried talking. We tried ignoring him. We tried to get people to ignore him. Nothing worked. I bet that even if he didn’t get killed today, he was going to keep up his schtick until the day he died.
The tragedy is that someone believed in his ideology. He… ugh, this is so hard to say out loud, especially because I'm going through my drafts and posting it almost a year after the fact... had enough charisma to convince people hate was good and needed, actually. He facilitated his own death in some ways (NOT A CONSPIRACY, just pointing out that inciting violence makes people do violence and you can't control which way it goes).
I'm still not sad he died. I look upon his works, somehow mighty, and despair. And frankly, we need whatever joy we can get and I'm moving the "it happened" playlist out of the freezer. Months later, I feel almost nothing about this man besides relief he's not making the rounds. I'm starting to think my school would have let him in under the guise of making dialogue. I'm glad that door was never opened and got bolt shut by the gates of death.
