Hello! I was looking at the phonetics/writing system page on your google doc, and I was wondering if Dai Bendu has and diphthongs? Or just pure vowels? I'm fine with this being answered publicly.

Yes! DB has dipthongs! (fun fact is that we briefly even considered a letter for the dipthong ai but decided against it bc we’ve already got so many letters).

DB dipthongs we’ve used so far include: /aɪ/ /eɪ/ /oɪ/ /aʊ/ /oʊ/ and /uʊ/

So in response to Stuff I am on birth control now, and a side effect of this is that I just... don’t get hangry anymore. All my life I have had blood sugar as a step function - it is not a gentle coast down until you realize you are hungry, it is “Hmm, it’s been 4.1 hours since I last ate” and then a minute later BOOM dizzy tetchy can’t think hate everyone and everything, act like a preschooler with no real control over this at all

and then I started this birth control, and one of the first nights it got late and I went, “Huh, I... forgot to eat dinner.” I do not simply forget to eat dinner. This is not simply something that happens without consequences. But no, I had to get used to not having hunger signals until my stomach was so empty that all I could feel was the more standard nausea side-effect and didn’t want to eat anymore, and even at that point there were no mood swings. It’s a little like being sick at all times, which is the only other time I experience not caring whether I eat or not.

So that’s been absolutely fantastic and I am praying it sticks around as my body adjusts more fully, and so is everyone who has to interact with me on a regular basis.

Hmm. In terms of actual linguistics knowledge, how about...

In English, there is a certain chemical we call aqua regia. It’s a mix of nitric and hydrochloric acids, and it’s good for dissolving metals, including gold. Aqua regia is, perhaps clearly, king’s water. In German, it’s Königswasser (king’s water). In Portuguese, it’s áqua-régia, perhaps not surprisingly.

In Russian, it’s царская водка (tsarskaya vodka) - tsar’s vodka.

In terms of fictional linguistics, there’s a word in Orcish I made up that I’m very proud of, because it just rolled off my tongue when I needed it without my thinking of it, but it actually makes etymological sense. Orcish magic tends toward the necromantic, which has cultural consequences, including things like great veneration for healers. There’s an insult for someone who’s either just an obnoxious person or a piddling magician - pechmagr. It’s an insult, but one that implies more derision than anger or fear.

After I said it, I realized it came from the German Pech, bad luck (although I was thinking of Pest, disease), and the Icelandic -maðr, maker.

If the graph paper lines are a different color from your drawing, you could maybe try to use a tool that selects/filter out by color?

They are a different color! So far I have been using the tool that selects by same color/contiguous lines (magic wand) and doing it in chunks. It would be nice to be able to select all of them though.

One person suggested making them a different layer, but I don’t know how to make layers, and in any case wouldn’t that be much the same process, except turning them into layers instead of deleting them?

My normal laugh is kind of chittery. However, I also really enjoy doing a deep villainous laugh on occasion.

1. Are there any fics that you wanted to leave multiple kudos for, and were disappointed when you could only leave one?

Yes! Especially in compliation fics where there are separate stories in each chapter or long-running fics.

5: What category of fics do you read the most? (angst, fluff, etc)

AU!!! All the AUs! I’m also very fond of crack treated seriously and other what-if scenarios. And, when it comes to the angst/fluff dichotomy, I probably lean the most towards angst with a happy ending.

14: What’s your favorite AU setting?

Depending on the fandom, I tend to lead towards either fae/urban fantasy or sci-fi. Also, while I’m picky about them, well-written daemon AUs are my jam and I adore the amount of worldbuilding and character development you can get out of them.

   I think hao means good rather than straight up yes.      And when I looked up shi as yes vs thank you, they      a. had different carecters and   

b. thank you was xiexie rather thank shishi so I think they’re meant to be pronounced slightly differently.

Fair! The six things I can say in Chinese I learned from listening, so I have no idea how to spell any of them.
