For those of us who had and still have the last, and possibly greatest, Sega home console, this is pretty awesome news. The number one concern I have always had with any disc-based console, Dreamcast especially, is that one day the disc drive unit will fail and there won't be any replacements to find anywhere. With this replacement for the drive, it's only a matter of getting a reasonably fast and big SD-card to hold the game images instead.
In other words: I could keep playing Shenmue and Shenmue 2 until either I or the Dreamcast finally expires. Yay!

What If the Dreamcast Won?
It's no secret that the Dreamcast is by far my hands-down favorite system of all time, and we've previously talked about the system's continued 'un-life'. 1UP has a great article that is kind of like those old Marvel "What-If ?" comics; can you imagine a world where rather than dying, the Dreamcast flourished and is the king of consoles? Well I can, and apparently so can 1UP. For all you die-hard Dreamcast and Sega fans out there, you should definitely give this a read!
