Drew Afualo causing another wave of women to peak bc of her dumbassery and her stupid ass friend that says TIMs have a “more beautiful experience of womanhood” is so *chefs kiss*. Even the mildest pushback or clarifying questions causes her to label everyone a terf lmfaoooo
Father, Son and… Holy Spirit?
Honestly, I think the biggest takeaway from the Drew Afualo situation is that the left cannot build solidarity whilst it keeps sorting people into two categories: morally pure or fascist/TERF/racist cunt.
Actual people don't work like that. Their politics are messy and contradictory. They can support trans rights and still think your argument was badly phrased. They can broadly agree with you and think you handled something like a fucking idiot, and caused harm whilst doing it.
And accountability culture is all well and good, but if accountability never reaches your own front door, it isn't really a principle.
Sometimes it is literally just:
"I phrased that badly. I understand how it caused harm to people I was trying to defend. I'm sorry. I'll learn from it."
Instead, if every criticism gets reframed as proof that the person criticising you is secretly a TERF/racist/fascist, you're just pushing more people away from progressive politics because eventually it starts to look like a fucking joke where protecting your own moral identity matters more than actually changing anything.
And call me crazy, but I don't think being extremely good at humiliating people with terrible opinions means you've developed some sophisticated political understanding of why they're wrong or how you're supposed to persuade anybody who doesn't already agree with you.
I think you're a very good influencer who offers catharsis to a lot of people. There is absolutely a place for that. But catharsis isn't activism and it isn't exactly moving the dial.
If your advocacy alienates people, gives the right easy ammunition and leaves vulnerable communities absorbing the backlash, then your good intentions aren't enough.
Especially when you've spent years saying impact matters more than intent and everybody needs to take accountability.
Okay then.... Take some.
Seeing the consequences of that Drew afualo quote is that trans women will always bear the brunt of what others say about them, regardless of whether or not it’s even worth listening to- especially if a trans women isn’t in the room with them
Me when there are snacks at the function.
So why was there not only a need to compare and put down women (Womanhood is a spectrum, no such thing as one experience thats better its just different levels and experiences of discrimination, we're all getting fucked over by the patriarchy in the end) but to also speak on Trans Women and speak FOR them when there wasn't one on that episode?
Like not only was that gross and insensitive to say with the way they worded it, you are putting words in trans peoples mouths and making the situation dangerous for them because while there are women making actual arguments that AREN'T transphobic and simply voicing discomfort for the words and statements thrown at them, there are ALSO people taking this as an opportunity to dog pile onto trans people??? On TOP of that there is a resurgance of some—emphasis SOME VERY FEW—who are bringing back terms like chest feeders and bleeders so its only aggravating women MORE! Make it make sense they both set off a fucking bomb for EVERYONE???
