@dandylion240 and I have a new chapter available for “The Academy.” Essentially, we decided it’d be best to cancel the BC we had planned for Pandora with the teachers and focus on the students so that we can move further along with our legacies. 

Anyway, enjoy!

The woman pushed passed Angelo and stood at the front of the class. “I’m your teacher, Miss Gray. You can call me, Pandora. I don’t much care for formalities. Truth is, I haven’t been called Miss Gray in years. Now let’s see. You, Ellery right? I don’t much care for smart mouths in my classroom.”

The room grew silent. This was the one who was her mother’s aunt, Zinnia realized. Pandora Gray. She studied under a man who knew almost as much about time travel as Emit Relevart, the time keeper himself. She meant serious business.

Pandora approached Ellery’s desk. “Mr. Williams doesn’t know as much as I do. In fact, he knows nothing about time travel at all, so direct your most difficult questions to me.” Angeo shrunk back under her harsh gaze. “Two, I don’t care how much you think you may know. This goes for your sister too in the back, I am the teacher. If you feel like I don’t have valuable information to teach then please come up here and save me some effort. I’ll still get paid regardless and it’s less work for me.”

Zinnia heard Sonny gasp. The girl covered her mouth. Zinnia felt the same way. Woah, Pandora was not one to mess with. But Ellery wasn’t the type to get flustered. He stood up and approached the front of the classroom much to his sister’s dismay. “What do you want to know about time travel. Any questions?”

Drew’s hand shot up and Zinnia shrunk down in her seat. This wasn’t going to be good. “Is it true that by just touching in the past you could change the future?”

Ellery approached the board and began writing things down. “Well, you see. There’s this thing called a continuum…”

Ellery grinned at Zinnia taking the empty desk beside her while his sister walked past towards the back. While she was taking a seat the door opened and Talon walked in. His hair was a mess like he hadn’t taken the time to comb through it yet. He glanced around the room before slumping into a nearby chair close to the door.

Ivy covered her mouth to hide the grin that threatened to show her amusement. She sensed the last thing the boy wanted was anymore attention to be directed at him. She looked up in time to see Audric give the boy a stern look but to her relief he didn’t say anything. He just turned nodding once to the teacher and left the room. Glancing at the clock she realized the boy really wasn’t late, just on time barely.

When the room was silent the teacher addressed the class. “I’m Angelo Williams, I’m Miss Gray’s aid. Before we get into the nitty gritty of time travel does anyone have any questions?”

Ellery raised his hand. “Go ahead,” Mr Williams pointed at the red head.

“Can someone who knows how to travel between dimensions also know how to time travel?” he raised an eyebrow hoping to challenge his new teacher. He was sure regardless of the answer he knew more than he did. He was encouraged by the sound of his sister’s giggle from the back of the room.

“Well we won’t be getting into dimension travel in this class,” Mr. Williams said, skirting the question as his eyes scanned the room for any other hands.

Angelo was shocked and had no idea what to do. He walked away from the front, choosing to stand to the side away from Pandora’s peripheral. Pandora smirked and sat down by Zinnia’s desk, much to the girls’ chagrin. This kid had guts and he did know what he was talking about.  

Ellery expertly explained the answer to Drew’s question and then dropped his dry erase board marker as if it was a mic and he had just won the biggest rap battle of his life. The other students looked on in awe, as Pandora kicked her feet up on Zinnia’s desk.

“If you don’t get 100s on all of your tests,” Pandora said, “I’m going to deduct points from the whole class’ average. Since, you know all about time travel.”

“W-ait!” Zinnia cried. “So you’re saying that I could fail because of him!”

Pandora nodded. “Yupp. It’s called teamwork. Lesson number one. All for one and one for all. Of course you all have to study so that if he does get deductions you won’t outright fail.”

“You have nothing to worry about,” Ellery told Zinnia with a wink. “I’ll ace every single test she puts in front of me.”

Drew’s shoulder’s rose to his ears. “Don’t know. He wasn’t in the room when I left.” His voice was unconcerned though as he turned to follow Zinnia to class. “What’s your hurry?”

“I don’t want to be late.” Zinnia tossed over her shoulder, not waiting to see if the boy was following or not.

“You’re never late.” He jogged to catch up to her. He leaned against the door preventing her from entering the classroom. “What’s so important that you have to be early to everything?” he demanded, crossing his arms.

She flashed him a look of annoyance before reaching around him to open the door. She giggled when he fell backwards when the door swung open. “I made a promise to do the best I can and I always keep my promises,” she said walking passed him.

She set her things down on a desk towards the front. She could hear Drew shuffling his feet behind her. Her focus though was on her dad who was standing beside the teacher with two new kids, a boy and a girl. She looked behind her when the door opened again and Sonny walked in.

Sonny moved towards the nearest desk beside her brother mumbling something about over sleeping. Leaning over she whispered, “have you seen Talon? I thought he’d be here.”

Shaking his head, Drew frowned. “I haven’t seen him all day.”  He opened his mouth to say something else but the sound of Audric clearing his voice cut him off.

That was a few days ago. Talon had indeed never been late to any of his classes so far, and he had never ran into Audric again. Looking back on it now, Zinnia couldn’t help but laugh. Talon looked so concerned, it was kind of cute. Turning to leave the library once again as she had that day, she was headed to time traveling 101. It was Saturday morning and while there were no morning classes held that day, Zinnia still woke up bright and early to study. She had promised her father that she would.

“No ghostly experience today. That’s always good,” Zinnia said to herself as she made her way through the halls. She had no doubt that she’d be the first one to class. Sonny, Drew and Talon all probably slept in. It would be nice to do that, but sleeping didn’t get her the knowledge she needed.

“Morning Zinnia!” She felt a strong grip around her arm, causing her to jump slightly. “Oh, uh…sorry about that. Didn’t mean to scare you.”

Drew. She flashed a quick grin. “It’s okay. You’re up early. I was expecting you and the others to be sleeping.”

“I woke up bright and early because today’s lesson is going to be AWESOME!” Drew pumped his fist into the air. “Time travel. I can’t wait! Oh man, it’s going to be so much fun!”

“I don’t think that we’re going to actually travel today,” Zinnia said. “Maybe go over the syllabus like in the other classes. Or take a test.”

“Syllabus? Why do you always have to be so technical,” Drew whined. “It doesn’t matter. It’s one step closer to traveling in time. I’m for it!”

Zinna couldn’t help but laugh. Today she wouldn’t be the first to class. She’d be entering with Drew. “Is Talon sleeping? I know your sister was before I left.”

Zinnia clapped her hands. “They’re so much more practical than those bigger wings. They probably never hit anything!”

Talon nodded. “Yeah. I guess you’re right. That’s a good point.”

Drew glanced between Zinnia and Talon. Was Zinnia flirting with him? Was that why she was complimenting his tiny wings? He hurried past them to hold the door open for Zinnia. “Hurry up I want to check out the rec room before it’s gets any later” he called to the couple as they dawdled along the path.

Talon gave Zinnia a thankful grin. “No one has ever told me they liked my wings. Most of the time they’ve been a source of a lot of teasing by others.”

She put a gentle hand on his forearm. “That’s awful. They shouldn’t have done that.”

“Well you know…” Talon shrugged “Most people think bigger is better.”

“I think they’re wrong” she assured him gaining herself another toothy grin. She nodded towards Drew who stood tapping his foot as if he had been waiting hours instead of a few minutes for them. ‘We better hurry. It looks like Drew has run out of patience with us.”

“That’s not it,” Talon said. “He’s jealous.”

“Jealous of what?” she asked, confused.

“Of you and me,” Talon said, his eyes sparkling as if he was sharing a private joke with her.

“Of me?” she asked, her confusion growing. She had no idea what Talon was talking about. From the way he was smiling she decided he was playing a joke on her. “I don’t think that’s very funny.” She started walking faster leaving him behind.

His brows knitted together as he had the feeling he had done or said something wrong. What exactly he had no clue. He entered the building feeling awkward and out of sorts when previously he had been having fun. Maybe he shouldn’t have kidded her about Drew. That had to be it. He approached the couple “I’m going back to the room. I…I want to change into something dry.” When no one spoke up to stop him it confirmed that they were both upset with him. He shuffled off feeling like he had just destroyed all hope of making friends here.
