HAN FUCKING SOLO YO
So I saw Solo: A Star Wars Story.
(Hereafter is a review of said movie with no spoilers. None. Zero. I promise.)
I loved it.
There were so many great setups. And payoffs. And twists. And thrills. And chases. And explosions. And fights.
The writing - UGH the WRITING - never felt predictable. Which is kinda what you want in a movie about the most gut-driven character in the Star Wars universe.
Alden Eirenreich did his homework. I would happily watch him as Han in as many movies as he's willing to make. There were moments when I had to check his face because I could have sworn it was Harrison Ford moving on screen (it's 100% my boy Eirenreich, just fyi)
Paul Bettany deserved better than Infinity War, and he got it in this movie. One of the scarier, more enthralling Star Wars villains yet.
The costumes are amazing. I legit swooned at one of Emilia Clarke's entrances (you'll know it when you see it), and Lando's wardrobe alone knocks the competition out of the park.
And Lando. Lando fucking Calrissian. This classy mofo gets to be played by one of the coolest people in America, and OH MY GOD THEY'RE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER. This movie just colors in Lando in all his Lando-ness and it is so much fun. I definitely felt my soul leave my body a couple times, and I bet Donald Glover knew it.
Conclusion? Definitely the best use of your summer blockbuster money. It's not gonna win any Oscars the way the academy is going right now, but it's exciting and never let's you get ahead of it. It's a great plunge into the Star Wars universe, and a fun escape from the heat. See it on the big screen.
