From memorable fireworks displays to quality time with your BBQ, the 4th of July is a particularly special holiday on the American calendar.
Unfortunately, it is also a particularly dangerous time of year: between 2007 and 2011, 40% of all highway deaths were caused by drunk driving over 4th of July weekend.
Sadly, we can expect around 200 Americans not to make it through the holiday. All those extra vehicles on the road are a bad idea to start with — and a number of drivers will likely lack full control over their cars because they are under the influence.
After all, it only takes one drink to slow your reaction time.
This Independence Day, you can bet there will be people gambling their lives on the roads in and around your neighborhood. Don’t become a statistic. Here’s how you can break the tradition of highway deaths on the 4th of July.
