Cantillon LHD, Lambic Haute Densité or a lambic coming from a high density wort, brewed to obtain a higher alcohol content of around 8-9%. A complex sipper with a light viscous mouthfeel. Sweetness is noticeable with some raisins and caramel accents but a fine, elegant acidity cuts right trough that sweetness. Alcohol isn't hidden and with the raisin, bready, nutty and fruity accents this reminds me of a Madeira wine. Yesterday was a great day, spending the entire day at Cantillon in good company and Jean opening a serie of super beers, like this Jean Chris Nomad. This blend is composed of lambic aged on different wine barrels, bottled in 2011 exclusively for the Mi-Orge Mi-Houblon beer shop and Jean Chocolatier. Very bright, mild dustiness on the nose, soft acidity, fruity fresh apple, straw, dry. New beer from Brasserie De La Senne, Obbrussel, a collaboration with Jean Van Roy of Brasserie Cantillon for the 800years existence of the town of St.Gilles. Brewed with malted barley and malted wheat and bottle conditioned with a local Brettanomyces strain. In the nose it's pure Brett funk; smells like it was delivered by horse with the horse still standing next to you 😜Horse blanket +++, barnyard, earthy with a soft underlying wheat touch and a mild fruity, apricot aroma. Soft in the mouth, light, quaffable and ending on a very dry note with a mellow bitterness. If you like it funky and I don't mean James Brown funky but Brett funky, than this is your beer!
