driver market is about to kick in, watch.

i feel like it was just waiting for one of the top drivers to make a move then other teams and drivers will go from there. like the start of domino effect. but tbh alonso staying in am was not on my list. for better or worse, it got me questioning on my manifestation of sainz to am. is lance gonna stay? bc there was a retirement rumor going around, not sure whether he was joking or not. wait does it seal off kimi to merc? i feel like it is. i cant see sainz go to any other team other than am or rbr. checo said that he's basically not concerned of his seat but it's rbr and i feel like they're a lil bit unpredictable. if stake/audi wants sainz i feel like he needs to be convinced that they won't suck next year. will there be a big change from the drivers with a long contract? like a buy off perhaps. this brings on so many thoughts i just ran with the keyboards lol.

Could he have scraped together enough money for an F1 drive? Idk, probably - he’s managed it with F2 and although the numbers are bigger they’re not earth-shatteringly so. But why scrape together the money for a series instead of taking one of the world’s most desirable factory drives, for one of the most successful motorsport constructors? That seems like an unfathomably bad choice.

Some drivers do have F1 as a goal beyond anything else. But it’s becoming more and more clear that chances there are few and frequently underwhelming, whereas you can go racing elsewhere, be successful and build a career. Will drivers be going from F2 to Hypercar in WEC? Absolutely.

F2 is the premier FIA junior series. F1 market it as the road to F1 because that’s an angle to get more eyes on it and explain it but F2 and F3 are separate entities to F1 and the superlicense points you can earn there are also required for Formula E, which has a separate thing called an e-license.

Look at Mitch Evans, Maxi Guenther, Daniel Abt, Sam Bird, Oliver Rowland; all ex-F2/GP2 and went to Formula E. And now people know who they are, respect them as drivers, view them as serious competitors. De Vries is getting attention for it because he’s the first champion to consciously go to another series rather than accept a test and development role then the scrapheap or a commentary job in a few years’ time but it’s not like this is new.

F1 is not the only motorsport series. It is a minority of single seater series available - and with another FIA top series, you’d be very foolhardy to rule out 24 seats for the possible chance of 20 others.

WHY DO THIS? What is the point? The team must think they’re just fucked from car development either way. This feels like a bad sign.

There were no reports on his future for the 2025 season. At the moment I would assume that he has the seat.

The focus has now shifted to the junior Red Bull team where Daniel Ricciardo has a unconfirmed seat. The article talks about how he is going to be defending again Liam Lawson. It is unsure whether Ricardo will finish out the 2024 season or if he’ll be replaced by the reserve driver. I think his seat is safe for the remainder of the year, but I can’t say whether he will be resigned or not. The market is clearly not something I can predict after the news with Perez.
