My plan for droidcon Berlin

I just went through the droidcon Berlin 2016 program to check which of the talks might be of interest for me and i thought i quickly share them here. So for anyone who - like me - is not a developer but working in the field, those might be good ones.

It’s a great feeling to check the program and understand a lot more than one year ago, when i organised this event and became more and more interested in mobile/app development. Now, after working as a project manager for app development since more than 8 months, i see the program in a different light. I see talks that might help me with some of my tasks at work and i see topics that are interesting for me in general, personally and professionally.

tl;dr: i’m looking forward to droidcon Berlin 2016!

Heute haben wir den Trailer oder Mood-Film für die droidcon Berlin 2015 hochgeladen und ich freue mich gerade sehr über das Ergebnis. Vielen Dank an Theresia für die gute Arbeit! Es ist für mich persönlich ein besonderer kleiner Film, da die droidcon Berlin nicht nur mein größtes sondern auch mein letztes Projekt bei newthinking war. Bei der nächsten Ausgabe werde ich aber bestimmt auch dabei sein - wenn auch aus der Teilnehmerperspektive :)

At droidcon Berlin 2015, Janne Jul Jensen held a keynote about UI/UX that included some really helpful info and reminders for developers and everyone else who’s interested in designing products that people will easily be able to use.

We decided to (let someone) design some droidbots for droidcon Berlin and give them a bit of personality. I wanted them to look “german” in a nice way, because with around 20 droidcons worldwide it makes sense to highlight some local traits. Not in a serious way but by using some cliché. However, we tried to not use gender stereotypes too much because those are lame and boring. I like that “Dina” is a soccer aficionado (just like me) and e.g. that “Doris” is wearing a Lederhose.

While i’m sick at home, i’m happy to see that my colleagues published a blog post about our first keynote speaker for droidcon Berlin. Janne Jul Jensen is a Senior Interaction Designer at Trifork. Her keynote is titled “The Cognitive Abilities of Human Beings - Why Some Things are just so darn Hard” and i think it’s a really good thing to start a conference day with some facts and inspiration about usability. No matter how innovative the idea for an app, no matter how good the backend, if the user doesn’t get it or doesn’t like using it. At least that’s what i think - from a user and tech enthusiast perspective.

“This talk will go into the psychological theories and explanations, that lie behind the difficulties users experience when guidelines are broken. By understanding these psychological explanations, we in turn become better at understanding what to strive for and what to avoid, when designing interfaces, because we understand why.”
