Koala spotting drones prove to be a flying success
Research scientists from QUT are using drones and a special algorithm to detect Koala Bear heat signatures in the dense Australia bush. The tech helps them to count Koalas. This innovative method for monitoring the population of Koala Bears using a drone equipped with infrared imaging is proving to be more reliable and less invasive than traditional animal population monitoring techniques used by wildlife rangers and humans. Using drones to replant trees after wildfires
DroneSeed is the first company to receive a multi-craft, over-55-pounds unmanned aerial vehicle license from the Federal Aviation Administration. That means its drones can work in swarms of up to five crafts to cover larger areas.
Each drone uses lidar to create a 3D map of an area and a multispectral camera to gather details about its soil and vegetation. From that data, an AI model determines the ideal spot to plant a new tree.
The drones don’t simply throw seeds at the ground, though — DroneSeed has developed special “seed vessels.” These are small pucks of nutrients with a seed at their center and a dusting of capsaicin on their exterior to deter animals from eating them.

Robolifeguard - kolejny dron z drukarki 3D
Niespełna miesiąc temu w Zjednoczonych Emiratach Arabskich odbył się konkurs pt. "Drones for Good", co w wolnej interpretacji można przetłumaczyć jako "Drony dla dobra ludzkości". Nagrodą była niebagatelna suma 1 miliona dolarów! Polskę reprezentowało konsorcjum o nazwie Aero Atena, w którego skład wchodziła kilka firm. Polska zaprezentowała ciekawy projekt drona ratowniczego wydrukowanego w technologii druku 3D.
Robolifeguard - taką właśnie nazwę nosił stworzony przez Aero Atena dron. Jego zadaniem ma byś patrolowanie zbiorników wodnych i wykrywaniem osób, które mogą się w nich znajdować np. po katastrofie statku lub promu. Ale to nie wszystko - dron może wylądować obok rozbitka dzięki czemu może się on chwycić maszyny i utrzymywać na powierzchni wody. Co więcej dron jest też wyposażony w system odstraszania rekinów. Cała konstrukcja zostaławydrukowa na polskiej drukarce Zortrax M200 przy użyciu trwałego filamentu Z-Ultrat oraz przeźroczystego Z-Glass, które są nowymi filamentami 3D w ofercie Zortrax. Niestety główna nagroda przypadła Szwajcarom z firmy Flyability, którzy stworzyli drona GimBall, ale Robolifeguard przeszedł aż do półfinału i jego twórcy nie zamierzają porzucać projektu - będzie on nadal rozwijany.
