Felt verza speed 50 Flat bar conversion to drop bars...
So after alot of bad wrist pain and numbness from the flat bars that came with my bike I decided to try to get some drop bars on a budget to give me more hand positions. Since my stock lever shifter combos are 22.2mm obviously so I had to find a fixie bar at that thickness. (I swear by Amazon for this kind of stuff...and shipping is usually free, as long as you don't mind waiting a long time for your stuff.) My felt stem is a 31.8mm but the only bars at 22.2mm were a 25.4mm center clamp diameter so I had to get a 25.4mm stem too. They both cost less than $40 CAD all in. The bars beat the stem in shipping but everything came in just under two weeks from China. I got the bars and stem fixed on with existing lever and shifter combo. It makes the tops of the bars crowded so I got the idea to make some mock hoods where real drop bar calipers would go using a pair of old mountain bike bar ends... After putting them on I used a bit of cut off aluminum tube (the drop portion) from failed chop and flop project to add some support between the bar end and the drop bars....a couple of cuts and some filing and bending and I had a smooth transition and was ready to hack the bar ends to length... Taped it up and I'm in business...three hand positions and no more numbness....
