#stickerbomb update
Finally had some time to apply the stickers... Also got a few light coats of clear gloss over top to protect...
Sticker bomb came for the #miyata project......doing the forks in stickers
Felt verza speed 50 Flat bar conversion to drop bars...
So after alot of bad wrist pain and numbness from the flat bars that came with my bike I decided to try to get some drop bars on a budget to give me more hand positions. Since my stock lever shifter combos are 22.2mm obviously so I had to find a fixie bar at that thickness. (I swear by Amazon for this kind of stuff...and shipping is usually free, as long as you don't mind waiting a long time for your stuff.) My felt stem is a 31.8mm but the only bars at 22.2mm were a 25.4mm center clamp diameter so I had to get a 25.4mm stem too. They both cost less than $40 CAD all in. The bars beat the stem in shipping but everything came in just under two weeks from China. I got the bars and stem fixed on with existing lever and shifter combo. It makes the tops of the bars crowded so I got the idea to make some mock hoods where real drop bar calipers would go using a pair of old mountain bike bar ends... After putting them on I used a bit of cut off aluminum tube (the drop portion) from failed chop and flop project to add some support between the bar end and the drop bars....a couple of cuts and some filing and bending and I had a smooth transition and was ready to hack the bar ends to length... Taped it up and I'm in business...three hand positions and no more numbness....
So here is the frame stripped and primed and then the first couple coats of white.... assembly happening soon...
So after taking my tire pump bracket and a vendor sticker off I have revealed the original paint job colour in all its unfaded glory. Amazing what 24years of sun does!
So first money spent is on new stem and handlebar Free shipping on all items(Amazon) $11.99 for the stem (80mm) $20.00 for the riser bar (720mm)
In the mail on its way are listed below: $29.99 st-ef51 shifter brake combo $2.65 quick release for the seat post $9.70 for cheap replacement pedals
Going to go with basic white for the paint and I’m going to try and paint my spokes and rims black.
So here she is. My beloved Miyata. 1993 or 94 I think. I’ve beaten this thing into the road over the years but also taken care of it. Replaced wheels, pedals bottom brackets and saddles. I’m really impressed with it and the quality of the components. Rear and front derailleurs, Crank, brake lever/brakes and shifters are all original. The chainside bottom bracket spindle sheared off a couple of years ago during a commute. I’ve since replaced my ride in 2016 with a Felt verza speed 50.
I’ve recently been daydreaming about fixing her up… I will be replacing a couple parts and painting it. I plan to do all of this on an extremely low budget. Aside from the bottom bracket replacement and final tune up, Amazon items with free shipping and tremclad spray paint will be my best friend for this project.
Stay tuned for more pics along the way.
