Drop bar mountain bikes have a come a long way since John Tomac's Raleigh Monstercross bike. And I've been craving for one ever since I saw the more modern @shandcycles Bahookie, Inspiration hit me and I'm finally transforming the old Cannondale Trail 5 29er trail bike into a #dropbarmtb for urban/gravel/pavement pounding duties since I can't use the Kanlaon RSR during the rainy season (wouldn't want to shave the knobbies off on concrete and asphalt 😂). Built from old parts and the absolute finest el-cheapo parts from Lazada. 🤣 Tektro RL520 levers pulling on some Zoom/Xtech cable actuated hydraulic calipers and 180/160mm RT66 rotors. The old ispec1 SLX 10sp shifter is mounted on the bar near the stem via a hacked 31.8mm FD caliper with a longer bolt, so that I can still use my old 10 speed mtb RD and Sunrace 11-46. I decided not to go the STI / Wolftooth Tanpan SH10 route to keep costs down. Two old 10 speed chains were built up into one to cover the 46t spread over the 34t Deckas chainring. Currently using my old 60mm stem to test the overall fit 'til I figure out how best to get comfy on this new setup. Was also able to mount the KS I-ten remote to the drop bar by the way, so I'm able to use my dropper post (for what, I am still unsure. At least it's there 😂). Next up, a fresh set of tires; the old WTB Vigilante 2.3 has warped and is now a wobbling mess. Also sourced some 40mm rims to keep the wheels wide and meaty. Stay tuned if you're into #dropbarmountainbikes to see how this mess ends up. 😂 #mtblife #mtb #trail5 #29er #ridecannondale #cannondalemtb #cannondalebikes #dropbarmtb #dropbarmountainbike #brodax #stupidfinebikes #eluuirdo https://www.instagram.com/p/B2dN8NQHfCK/?igshid=1e9emn8gemkm6
