OK. Time to talk about my incredible experience in Hudson this summer while doing my residency @dropforgeandtool. This is the third year I’ve done this residency and this year I decided to invite Josh Birdsall: @futurepoodle and Jenny Krumpus: @jennyfromthebk. Jenny could only come for the first two days but she helped us set the tone. I was a little concerned before hand that having friends along would devolve to chatting, catching up and not getting work done. I was so wrong about that. I showed up with some templates that I made which were blank panels and lines for prompts. We did a variety of exercises in which we brainstormed words, swapped papers and then added constraints like drawing styles and a timeline, usually between one and five minutes. It was not only super fun, but it actually helped us turn out better work. Over the course of the week, Josh and I fell into a Rhythm of planning, brainstorming, exploring solo ideas and critiquing each other’s work. When our design projects wore us out we went to the river and painted, always falling back on the notion that creativity begets creativity. This is the first post of many in which I want to highlight the work we did at #dropforgeandtool. https://www.instagram.com/p/B1UCtBvhU3Z/?igshid=1d0epvnxc0dbs
