Bean a While | Rose & Owen | 3/28/2021
Rose was a patient woman. It came with the territory when her job was to be there for people who have been through incredibly horrific situations. She learned pretty early on in her career that there was no reason to be impatient with people in pain. Of course that patience bled through into her personal life, but even then she had limits.
Generally, as a rule, she tried to keep her patience with people in the service industry, but this morning just wasn't going well. She wasn't upset with the baristas, per se, just the fact that the cafe was so busy and she was in no mood to stand in line for another ten minutes. Was the coffee even worth it? She kept asking herself if she even needed it, but the reminder that the breakroom coffee at work was terrible was enough to keep her standing behind the woman yakking on her phone rather loudly.
Patience may have been a fault this morning, because once she'd put her order in and moved to stand to the side to wait, she noticed someone familiar standing in line. She had only met him once, when she had gone to his office to vet him for her job, but she would have a hard time forgetting that man. The grey hair, the lean body, the handsome face...it was normally something she would try to pick up at a bar. However, the circumstances of their work connection and the fact that she had never actually referred any patients to him.
She ducked her head, trying to hide a little so he wouldn't see her. Would he think ill of her for not sending anyone his way? Or maybe he didn't remember her at all. Either way, she wasn't sure she wanted to find out.
