HAIII!! It's been a bit, I just came up with something after I remembered the post Kodaka made about Gonta being the most difficult to take care of when he's drunk.

Obviously, I think Gonta is babied way too much by the fandom because of the English Dub. He would obviously know what alcohol is. I think he would really like cocktails or sweet alcoholic drinks.

I can imagine Rantaro and Gonta having this interaction when he's drunk.

"Ok, big guy, the bed's here..."

Gonta stumbled towards the bed and sat down, tears streaming down his face... He's drunk. He drank too much at Kokichi's birthday party.

"Th-Thank you.. Firefly.."

Despite being drunk, Gonta was still polite.

"Let's get you to bed, let me undress you.." Rantaro began to unbutton Gonta's dress shirt, taking it off gently.

Suddenly, he was crushed into a hug. "ECK- G-Gonta- *wheeze-*"

"*Hic!* Gonta loves you so much, Rantaro..!! H-He is so happy that he met you.. Rantaro i-is so kind.. Honest.. Beautiful.. Gonta wouldn't know what to do without his f-firefly.. His honeybee, Gonta..-"

Gonta then suddenly began to cry harder, much to Rantaro's confusion.

"G-Gonta never wants to leave Rantaro..! Gonta is scared of what will happen if Rantaro goes on an a-adventure and Gonta’s not there..! He wants to protect you, hold you, l-love you forever.."

Rantaro finally looked up at Gonta, smiling gently at him.

"I love you too, lovebug," he wiped away some of Gonta's tears, "but... Why didn't you say this before? About how you're scared about what'll happen to me of I'm somewhere that you're not?"

"BECAUSE.. GONTA DIDN'T WANT RANTARO TO TH-THINK GONTA WAS BEING D-DRAMATIC..!!" Gonta practically howled, holding onto Rantaro tightly.

"Gonta.. Worries about Rantaro so much to the point he can't sleep at night..! He feels like you don't t-take care of yourself properly..! Gonta has seen it but h-he didn't know what to do..!"

Rantaro's eyes widened at this. He has been recently neglecting himself a bit since he has been so focused on finding his last sister, Remi.

Tears stung the corners of his eyes. He held onto Gonta, kissing his cheek.

"I'm so sorry, sweetheart.. You don't deserve to feel like that. You can always talk to me about these things, ok? I'm here for you no matter what.."

"P-Please.. Rantaro.. Take care of yourself.."

"I will, I promise.."

After half an hour of holding one another, they both finally went to bed...

Once morning rolled around, Gonta was hung over, yet he has memories of what happened last night, and he felt embarrassed.

"Gonta is still sorry for acting that way last night.."

"Don't worry about it, we all say and do weird stuff when we're drunk."

"Gonta was just... Brutally honest."

Gonta grabbed the water bottle sitting on the bedside table and took a swig of it.

"... Gonta is thankful about being comforted though.. Thank you."

"You were an emotional mess. It was all I could do..." Rantaro chuckled, kissing Gonta's forehead.

For the rest of the day, they just chilled out. They deserve it after everything that happened yesterday.

The whole 'Gonta's the most difficult to handle when drunk' thing is so fun to think about too, lots of different possible interpretations of 'difficult' like you've done here. Also like you I think he'd prefer sweeter alcohol, like fruit cider.

My guess about your secret Gonta ship is Gonta x Kaede (because of the teacup and one of her conversation options during the Ch1 FTEs) or Gonta x Kirumi (because butler x maid). There are Gundham references in there, but you did mention them and post non-shippy art of them, so I assume that's not it. Last guess would be based on the presumably character-themed drinks and meals Gonta is carrying, and I do recognize some of them, but I'm too lazy to check all the DR restaurant collabs, and not sure I can find them all, but this is the thread of deduction I'd follow personally. Anyway, if it's either Kaede or Kirumi, then very good, very cultured choice! And then bam, turns out it's Miu. STILL VERY CULTURED IN MY EYES

Ooh, I like your deductions anon!! And those are some excellent ships you've mentioned. None of them are ✨the one✨, but if I made a tier list of Gonta ships those would be near the top!

I'm gonna go ahead and ramble about these ships a little bit. Thanks for taking the time to think over my silly little challenge! 💗

Oh also, re: my favourite ship, I'll narrow things down a bit more. You're right about the items on Gonta's tray each being tied to a specific character. The tea/coffee is Shuichi, and the dessert is Gundham (I do tend to flip on whether I like Gondham platonically or romantically though. I usually land on the former, but either way I still think they have 'soulmate' vibes).

The yellow-blue (...green?) drink is the one to look at! Admittedly, the DR cafe collab it's from is pretty rough to search for... but I did manage to find the specific reference I used for it. I searched 'danganronpa cafe collabs' on DuckDuckGo and then went to the image tab, the drink should be there in one of the first results...

Kaede

I like this ship a lot! I get 'power couple' vibes from these two - absolutely unstoppable once they set their minds on something. And they both love to make others smile. Kaede gets the urge to play some piano to help cheer someone up? Gonta's sprinting off to fetch her keyboard. Gonta wants to hold an event to show people how cool bugs are? Kaede's rallying the others to help out/show up, and also guiding Gonta on how to show off the bugs without freaking anyone out.

Overall, Kaede and Gonta are quite similar - their kindness, their strength in explicitly throwing away their moral codes for the sake of the others, perhaps even their stubborness - but the way they express their similarities is rather different! For example, Kaede's kind but she's also not afraid to call people out when they get pushy - i.e most interactions with Miu lol. Gonta on the other hand, is "will rip out his own heart for you" kind, without a hint of pushback (99.999% of the time... "Miu gets things wrong a lot... a whole lot..."). They might have things to teach each other about balancing empathy with not tolerating bullshit.

If anyone's going to try and challenge Gonta's "people who don't like bugs are bad" belief... it's Kaede. But I'm not convinced it'd actually be a difficult discussion. Gonta would definitely look like he's enraged by the mere suggestion, but I think a bit of bravery and a 'common-sense' explanation would get through to him.

Also, these two have some very fun synergy during the first trial. That's actually the basis of a WIP I have, not totally convinced I'll complete it though as I have another Gonta-Kaede art idea. I won't go into too much detail here just in case, but I'll leave a sketch for part 1 of it here:

If Kaede gets too deep into playing the piano that she forgets to eat, Gonta's there with some food to gently coax her into taking a break. If Gonta gets too deep into studying insects that he forgets to eat, Kaede's there also with some food and gentle coaxing into a break. But she may add a comment that the bugs will still be there after he comes back, so let's go out for a bit!

What if... casual duet piano playing with Gonta using his dominant left hand to play the lower notes and maybe holding Kaede's paw hand with the other...

Kirumi

A cute ship! A gentleman-in-training and a naturally-refined lady. Setting aside the idea that Kirumi would have a lot to teach Gonta about etiquette, I think she'd also see a lot of potential in him. Considering he went missing from society for ten whole years, he's doing a really good job of catching up with his peers, and his enthusiasm for self-improvement is near-limitless. Gonta being someone she could support while he has an inherent, internal drive to improve would catch her eye (as in, he wouldn't end up relying on her and regressing if she ever stopped). But what might endear her more is that Gonta would want to treat her equally as well as she does him. He'd want to make sure she's getting the rest she needs. And his intentions are very transparent, so it'd all be obviously out of genuine concern - not because he's looking down on her or starting to think she's any less competent or amazing. As for Gonta, Kirumi is a refined, incredibly competent and lovely woman who enjoys helping others out and also likes spiders. What's not to love?

I think Gonta could and would learn more about how to do domestic work like cooking and cleaning - he's proactive, dedicated to self-improvement and clearly has the desire to help others. There's even a Salmon Mode scene where he's excited about learning how to cook! Now whether Kirumi would want him to do any work when she could do it instead... probably not for a while. She might think his enthusiasm exceeds his current level of skill. But I don't think it'd be because she thinks he's dumb or doomed to be incompetent. Any domestic work he does may be supervised at first, but with his enthusiasm and desire to learn, she'd believe in his ability to succeed on his own with enough patience and time.

Miu

I adore this ship... but I do have to explain it a bit. For me this ship is more of a headcanon "they've both grown up and matured emotionally a little before they get together" sort of deal. Essentially, the way I like to think of their personalities together is based more in fanon than in canon. With Miu, I tend to love her character in fanfic but not like her much in V3 itself. She's still lewd/crude/rude/what have you, but she has more of a purpose for it. Whereas in canon, to me it seems like she just says "[the most offensive thing that anyone could say in the current situation]" and that's it, that's the punchline, no extra depth to be found here. And with Gonta, canonically a lot of what Miu says would fly over his head, I think. Not because he's 'dumb' but because he doesn't have the life experience/exposure to human society to match the slangy, obscene stuff Miu says to his own frame of knowledge. Though being a biologist he'd have a better grasp on sexual references than others would think. I bet he'd have some interesting insect facts to share with Miu.

It would take some time for them to both 'click' together initially, but once they both catch feelings they are ride or die for each other, defending each other against the world. Gonta smooths over Miu's brash attitude towards others with apologies and maybe a topic diversion to something bug related. Miu calls out anyone who tries to pull one over Gonta, and keeps telling him that the gorgeous girl genius wouldn't just settle for anyone, so he should stop beating himself up and start treating himself like he's worthy of her.

Touching on Miu's behaviour towards others - it might be easy to think that the well-behaved Gonta would be easily embarrassed by Miu's outbursts, especially in public. But I do think Gonta's worries about public perception is more tied up in his own lack of self-worth, rather than being legit standards he holds everyone else to. He'd absolutely put up with some embarrassment for the people he cares about!

I think Miu and Gonta both share a kind of loneliness from human society. They're both a bit too quirky and authentic to themselves to be palatable to more "normal" people. Their hyperfixations make them truly incredible, but they also alienate them from others in such a way that people aren't really interested in getting to know them. Perhaps they could bond over that...

The 'Go Go Insect Rangers' post by lordofdorknessgundham lives in my head rent-free. Also the Big Dick Is Back In Town jumper lmao. They absolutely would watch sentai shows together and get extremely invested.

Rantaro isn't a big drinker, but when he does drink, he likes cider and can occasionally stomach down beer.

As for how he acts, I just like to think he acts so out of pocket, especially very flirtatious towards Gonta.

"C'mon, Firefly, you need sleep.."

"... Nah, I'm fine."

Surprisingly, Rantaro was very blunt when drunk.

"Gonta wants you to rest, sweetheart.. Rantaro looks wasted.." He placed Rantaro on the bed, not noticing how his partner was looking up at him with a (very drunken) smirk.

"Well, I think you look fine as hell."

"Eh?!"

"You heard me, darling."

Gonta looked up at Rantaro with big eyes, his face turning all red.

"R-Rantaro! Now isn't the time, Rantaro drunk!"

"But look at yooouuu.." He suddenly began to squish Gonta's cheeks. "Squishy cheeks, a cute personality, a body frame of a Greek God... How did I get so lucky..?"

"Fireflyyy.." Gonta whined, but he was not opposed to the compliments and the drunk flirting. "Thank you, but you need rest..-"

"I am.. Fine!" He pointed at the anolog clock on the wall. "See.. I can tell the time.."

"Well.. Tell it."

"... I am NOT. Ffffuckin' drunk."

"Rantaro!" Gonta had to keep his composure to not burst out laughing. "Profanity!"

"Oh, you love me for it."

"... Is Rantaro drunk again?-"

Hell yeah flirty Rantaro :D He's the kinda guy who usually keeps his cards close to his heart, so this is very fun! And Gonta prioritising Rantaro's wellbeing but not feeling too bad about the flirting... 👌

Oh also, I really like the banter back and forth here - Gonta being like 'hold the fuck up Rantaro you are clearly pissed' (but politely) is great. I think he's often characterised as a complete pushover who doesn't question anything, like, he'd accept Rantaro saying he's not drunk while slurring at face value lol. But in canon there's a decent amount of times where he claps back at shenanigans, so it's fun to see that here too :D

"I know, I know. I'm sorry, it was dumb for me to do that-"

"Not "dumb", idiotic! What was Rantaro thinking?!"

For context, Gonta and Rantaro got in a rock slide, Rantaro noticed how Gonta was falling behind, so he pushed Gonta out of the way from an incoming boulder. Nearly getting killed in the process.

Gonta was tending to Rantaro's wounds, clearly shaken up from the incident from an hour ago.

"Look, you could've died too. I got you out of the way from those boulders because you were falling behind."

"Well, Rantaro could've just- Gonta don't know, shouted so he could get out of the way?!"

"I recognise you're upset, but-"

"No! Gonta doesn't wanna hear it! Rantaro does this over and over again!"

Gonta finished tending to Rantaro's wounds, looking up at Rantaro, seething with annoyance.

"What? What do I do over and over again?"

"Don't play dumb! Rantaro constantly tries to play hero to protect Gonta. Yes, he appreciates it, but Rantaro doesn't think for himself in these situations!"

Rantaro was taken aback at this, and tried to defend himself.

"I don't do it constantly, I-"

"Oh? Rantaro..." He inhaled...

"Nearly getting shot by cartels thinking you were someone else, having an allergic reaction to seafood while Rantaro KNEW he was allergic, nearly falling off a cliff, nearly drowned, nearly breaking back while rock climbing, now this."

"In my defence, I didn’t know the food I was having had shrimp in it!"

"And the others?" Gonta raised an eyebrow.

"Look, these happen on my adventures. Those are just the dangers. It's not all butterflies and rainbows-"

"What would sisters think if they found out Rantaro died?!"

It felt like the air got sucked out of Rantaro. He finally broke eye contact with Gonta before whispering:

"Please, don't bring them up right now..."

"Why not? It true! Sisters would be devastated if they found out-"

"Gonta, just... Stop. Enough, I get it now." His voice was firm. He did NOT want to hear that, not after that near death experience.

Gonta finally backed down, feeling like he went too far with mentioning his sisters.

They both stayed sat down on the grass, both of them quiet as they listened to the birds chirping and the wind blowing. Both of them hated this after an argument, the awkward silence that comes after.

Maybe later they'll make up, they always do.

...

Nightfall finally came. The rest of the day talking to one another were just plain responses and more silence.

Gonta was still wide awake in the tent, facing away from Rantaro as he slept. They still slept in the same air mattress after all.

"Say sorry, Gonta needs to say sorry."

He turned over to Rantaro, who was softly snoring, and started poking him on the cheek.

"Mmh.. What..?" It didn't take long at all to wake him up.

"Gonta.. Just wanted to say sorry for earlier."

"... Oh.. No, it's ok.." Rantaro sat up, rubbing his eye. "It was my fault after all, I just didn't want you to get hurt."

"Gonta also didn't want Rantaro to get hurt, Gonta was just... Scared, and he pushed it too far when he mentioned sisters."

Rantaro pulled Gonta into a cuddle.

"No, you were right. I just didn't want to hear it at the time because, well, it's a scary thought, knowing all my near death experiences could've gone badly, and my sisters may not ever know."

"Gonta was just.. Scared..." Tears started to sting his eyes. He normally gets like this when resolving an argument.

"Ahah, there they are, here come the tears."

"G-Gonta can't help it! Rantaro knows this!"

"I do know." Rantaro gently put Gonta's head on his chest, letting him listen to his heartbeat.

"Now, relax and rest, lovebug."

Gonta closed his eyes, letting himself cry as he listened to his partner's heart. Feeling Rantaro's fingers stroke his hair was soothing as well... After a few minutes of this, they both went to sleep cuddling each other.

Another argument was resolved.

I CRIED WHILE MAKING THIS THEY MAKE ME SO ILL /VVPOS anyways, when my A03 is made (currently on the waiting list until the 25th of April), I may expand on this.

Anyway, I have an upper wisdom tooth coming out, and it hurts,,, So I'm giving the same problem to Gonta-

"How's the wisdom tooth, love?"

Gonta is biting in a pillow, irritated and in pain.

"Pain has got worse! Tooth is halfway out, and Gonta can't stop drooling!"

Rantaro sighed, shaking his head.

"I understand. Wisdom teeth are the worst, especially the top ones. This is what babies feel like when they're teething."

Gonta gasped, tearing up a bit.

"Th-They do..?"

"Yep, I remember my sisters teething. It was painful for them, so much so I couldn't sleep at night because of them crying."

Gonta sat up before hugging Rantaro, his chin resting on his head.

"Gonta sorry if he whines. It just hurts.."

"I know, bud.." he hugged back, his fingers grazing Gonta's back. "Would you like some painkillers?"

"Mmhm.. Please.."

Lots of comfort and cuddles for these two, although Gonta ends up drooling a waterfall in his sleep.

You know, this has reminded me of a Gonta headcanon/scenario I think of occasionally... When he returns to society, he'd try (and most certainly fail) to find certain plants to use as painkillers, like he was taught to in the wild. He wouldn't remember pain medication until he's re-introduced to it.

I have no plans to do this at the moment, but if one day you see a Gokumami fic with that kinda premise... maybe that's me lol

Hey, I'm the same person who sent you that Gokumami ask a few days back, I just thought of something wholesome and funny fr,,,

Rantaro and Gonta both camping in the same tent having their nightly cuddles and kisses (AWAWAWHAUEHEJJS- Sorry.), but then when morning comes around Gonta is the first to wake up to a horse's head in his face.

And what I think would be funny is that Gonta wouldn't even flinch, since he was lost in the woods for years, he seen some crazy shit before, so this is nothing to him. He keeps quiet so Rantaro doesn't freak out when waking up, as well as keep the horse calm so it wouldn't freak out and get injured or destroy the tent.

The horse eventually leaves when Rantaro was about to wake up, and Gonta just casually tells him:

"There was a horse in the tent, but Gonta didn't freak out so you both wouldn't be scared! 😄"

"... Gonta there was a WHAT in the WHAT?" 😦"

Rantaro is so surprised because an animal never tried to go into his tent before, so hearing a HORSE went into the tent surprised him. (He saw the horse outside when he properly got up.)

Gonta would be so casual about it fr... the horse pops their head into the tent right into his face and he's like "oh, hello there!", whispering as to not wake Rantaro up

He definitely pets the horse for a little bit before it leaves, one arm reaching up to their muzzle and the other arm around Rantaro 🥺

As Rantaro starts to wake up Gonta gives him good morning kisses, the same as usual so he suspects nothing (anon never apologise for gokumami cuteness aggression!!). And then Gonta drops the news on him

After Rantaro gets over the surprise he immediately asks if the horse was there for food. Gonta says "oh, Gonta will ask", he nips outside for a minute and then comes back saying the horse just wanted to make sure they were OK. Rantaro responds "oh, [youngest sister] would love this, that's the kind of thing she'd say." Gonta helps him pet and feed the horse while he takes pictures and recordings on his phone for her (in this scenario all his sisters are found because please)

The two of them chat about it afterwards, Rantaro saying he's slept in some odd places but he's never had any animals sneak up on him. "Perhaps animals that live in the wild don't fear humans as much. Did this sort of thing happen to you when you lived in the forest?" Gonta nods, then says "Yeah... Gonta wake up next to lots of animals. Even newborn bunnies one time" Rantaro shakes his head and laughs a little, almost in disbelief - if he hadn't seen Gonta's affinity for wildlife over and over he'd find it difficult to imagine. "They must find you very soothing to sleep next to", he says, thinking back to all his rough nights of sleep, and how much easier sleep comes to him when he's with Gonta

Rantaro would absolutely call Gonta a Disney princess after all this lol
