a roundup of responses to today’s daily rpc question aka , what is an offensive or overused portrayal you see a lot ? because i got so far behind on answering from the inbox i’m sORRY.
when people play political characters and then get upset if your muse doesn't like their muse because of their muse's politics. especially when the politics are aligned with racist, sexist, homophobic ideals and i'm playing a gay muse of color.
in rps where secrets are required it peeves me when people have that their character is part of the lgbt community as a secret bc it implies the rp will have to 'expose' that they're lgbt and it's just a mess
strong snappish muses that need no one and will fight. yes, it is interesting ( to a point ) for angst but please, give me all soft muses that do cry && not always have a witty comeback
black characters being shitty parents, having shitty parents, or having 3 baby mamas
Oh with the “hot” muses, when they are mean because of their ‘tragic backstory’ and your muse is supposed to want to know it. Absolutely not. If your muse is an antagonistic asshole from the beginning why would my muse want to know more about them?
istg that if i see one more hypersexualized latina woman it will be on sight. also latin america is not only two countries people ! !
when Jewish FCs are used, and they’re exclusively played as secular. And it’s obvious that it’s 100% out of research laziness.
'bisexual' female muses who only date/want romantic connections w men
when the rpc claims to be woke but unless u a play straight cishet quirky white muse u get thrown to the side
portraying mental health issues in harmful & stereotypical ways. like if you haven’t done research to write it in a respectful way then just don’t. there’s already so much stigma around mental illness and it pisses me off to no end to see people add to that through their ignorant portrayals
this is more of an overused phrase but "their tongues battled for dominance". also, referring to eyes as "orbs". just makes me think of ghosts.
muses with mental ilness that mysteriously vanishes once they get a ship
muses that are mean to everyone that they don't want to fuck. i get writing a standoffish muse but there's way too many cheryl blossom copies in the rpc
People writing characters with anxiety, but just being entirely unable to recognize the difference between what the symptoms of a disorder are vs. someone who experiences anxiety and panic attacks. or on the whole just really nonchalant & vague treatment of mental health in characters. esp when they only seem to exhibit the symptoms when they want them to have a breakdown & not in the day-to-day way mental health actually impacts people.
adhd or any other disabilities as a personality trait
