for the sleeptalking poll it is Shizuo ok, bc I am Shizuo core and my partner is Izaya like and I've got nightterrors and sleep paralysis and I sleepwalk. I say the WILDEST off the wall shit while sleeping, have sat bolt upright and yelled, knocked stuff off the nightstand then woke up and cleaned it confused only to immediately do it again and I punched him TWICE on two separate occasions while dead asleep. Tell me that's not Shizuo right there

I think Shinra is less despicable than Shizuo because regardless of his work and Mika's story and the idea if celty doesn't stay with him it will get worse.

but he has a much higher level of self-awareness than Shizuo and bc he doesn't justify himself we think he's more despicable.

Also, his lack of concern for anyone but Celty makes him fair and unbiased.

We all know how horrible and murderous vorona is, also kidnapping and hurting children and trying to shoot Shizuo, yet he still treats her like an angel and a child. This is absolutely terrible.

Even Izaya didn't excuse Nami's actions, despite his love for her work skills

I have always loved people who have self-awareness, no matter how vile they are, still better than those who constantly tell you that they do not like violence or anything bad and want to change, but they return to the same cycle.

I get where you're coming from Anon. Like I said, I struggle with exercises like this where I weigh morality/deeds. I think Shizuo is a scumbag in his own rite. However, I don't think Shinra's self-awareness saves him anything and while I agree to some extent that the fact he only truly cares about one person makes it easier for him to be objective, I still think a self-serving person like him is more despicable than someone who has no goals whatsoever and no ill intent whatsoever like Shizuo.

Personally, I think Shizuo's worst crime is his self-righteousness and his tendency to condemn people once and then write them off forever. And conversely, I think the fact he excuses the actions of characters like Shinra, Vorona, and Kujiragi are also problematic. If that is his worst offense, whereas the other people lower on that list are people committing heinous crimes against other people (not saying Shizuo's property damage and injuring others isn't a crime. Just also noting that he has no intent or goals behind his crimes), then I don't feel right putting him below any of those people on the list.

With that said, I am also conflicted about my placement of Mikado, but I put him there because Mikado had good intentions behind what he did, and ultimately I personally was not upset by any of the crimes he committed as the leader of the Dollars or Blue Squares but that could just be because of who I am as a person lmao.

Ive always thought it was strange back then people tried to justify shizu*na is better than shizaya because izaya is evil and ruins shizus life and other's when she has literally murdered people not for purpose but because she thought it was fun

I recognize the appeal of giving Shizuo a partner who can "match" him in strength. I even understand people that see that whole layer of him that is sadistic and vindictive as just the justified violent side of his personality or whatever even if I don't agree with it, so they want him to have a partner who is equally straightforward yet "misunderstood" with a violent past.

My thing is that she spends the majority of her screen-time idolizing him the way other characters who are portrayed as morally in the wrong do. She loses her own character and gives up an interest in her values as a character because she has met someone as strong as Shizuo... why? It reminds me of the same kind of obsession you see with Seiji Yagiri and Celty's head at the beginning AND end of drrr... you know, that historically frowned upon obsessive connection that both Shizuo and Izaya made fun of him over?

Also, in reference to the ranking I just made, MOST of the morally reprehensible women were doing fucked up things that people overlooked for their quirkiness or how agreeable they were to talk to. As many women as there are in this show, the ONLY one of the women that showed morally reprehensible traits and whose story didn't revolve around a man's was Erika Karisawa; whose was arguably still revolving around Kyohei's. I was just... really disappointed that the character took the direction she did, you know? She would have been so interesting as Celty's foil. Instead, I think she works better as Manami's (even though yes, I know some people think she is Mikage's foil. Mikage has never done anything wrong in her life though and I don't believe she's meant to foil anybody.)

In what year is Drrr and SH supposed to take place in? 🤔 asking for a fanfic

Ehhh depends on what you're basing it on! You can just assume drrr takes place in the years the first novel was released, the year the anime was first released, or the year DRRRx2 takes place. So:

Novels: Started 2004 - Ended 2014 so you can base SH up to 3 years after either of those.

S1 Anime: Started 2012. I see no reason to base it after the years they were translated or dubbed lol. And SH would technically take place in 2015. This is personally the one I like best, but that's only because the anime is where I started lol.

S2 Anime: Started in 2015 so SH would presumably take place in 2018. My long fanfic takes place around then because that's the year I got into Shizaya lol.

Admittedly, there is no canon year to my knowledge? There's been lots of talk about Izaya and Shizuo's birth years and how that correlates to the year the events of drrr start. Let me just say- it really doesn't matter in my opinion! Much like A Series of Unfortunate Events, the time period of drrr is set in no specific time period because the anime changes technology so often. The mid to late 2000s or the early to mid 2010s is fine.

Lmao sorry your quick question turned into a long spiel. XD TLDR; it doesn't matter. 2015-2016 ish. Maybe.
