idk how to say this but us druck fans as a whole tend to be the most critical / focused on social issues / ‘sjw’ out of all the remakes, which are in some ways quite similar to mailin in that we often ruin the ‘fun’ of a season by constant criticism in the tags (even though the criticism is mostly well thought-out).
mailin herself cannot stop looking at things through a social justice lens and cannot just relax and realise that the people around her will act in flawed ways. she is not willing to take a moment and realise what may lead a person to consume non-recyclable products etc. BUT at the same time the viewers are also not willing to accept that she is flawed and is perhaps using her sjw identity to make up for her insecurities + that despite how annoying she is she does care. you can never really expect a teenager to do that kind of thing perfectly. there are some interesting posts in the tag rn where people talk about how they themselves used to take on the identity of the person who is knowledgeable about social issues to make up for them feeling like they lack a strong character, or are still figuring out their own sense of morality.
this season is not perfect and she is acting embarrassing and is not above criticism but this incessant need for people to separate themselves from her while at the same time being on a sm platform where communities act very similarly to her is a little jarring
