I can’t with this fandom sometimes. So many people are like “love triangle again ugh” “i dont want to watch the love triangle show me something else” “why are we wasting time with the love triangle instead of gender identity plot”. How are they watching the show? Are they only seeing what they want to see and ignore the rest? It is so clear that this “love triangle” is just a device to adress other issues like friendship, gender identity, sexuality.

I get the frustration. I've felt it as well. But that's fandom, right? Each of us is kinda watching a different show because we're all bringing in our own perspectives, experiences and wishes and so on.

I'm glad you seem to agree with my reading of the show. 💖 I'm always glad when I find people I can agree with in the fandom.

I think this episode in general and the last clip specifically made it quite clear that this love triangle is mainly a device to help with addressing all those other important issues. It might not be the best device the authors could have chosen. And I do get people's frustration because love triangles are used so often, be it as a device or as the main plot. It isn't super creative. And I think the writers put too much focus on this particular part of the plot in the first few episodes.

However, I don't think the whole season is bad because of it or unwatchable or something. I do hope we'll get past or better beyond this love triangle because then Ismail can't hide behind it either. I want them to really do some introspection and learn about themself, and characters like Consti and Lou as well as romantic storylines are often loud and in your face and thus overshadow more subtle beats of storytelling. I want those subtle parts too.

So I get your frustration with the fandom,but I also get the fandom's frustration with the show. I just hope we can all enjoy watching it together for a bit again. I'm kinda missing that part of fandom culture 💖💖💖

I think people follow you because you stick out in a tag that is mostly towing the invisible line of what can and cant be expressed. Whether people agree or disagree with you, it's undeniably true that it's always more interesting to see mixed and varied takes (within reason ofc bigots, racists, fatphobic etc are not included)

Well thank you, I think. 😅 It’s not like it’s been my intention to stand out, I just say what I think or question things. And I know that rubs a lot of people the wrong way, because there’s a tendency in fandom for people to exist in a hive mind. And many who don’t agree with the purported mindset just keep quiet because we all see what happens if you don’t. Instead of having varying opinions and theories and questions, you have a group of the loudest or biggest people telling everyone what they should think or stating their opinions as fact. So in that vein, I guess I do stick out because I don’t do that. Whatever the “right” opinion is, sometimes I agree and sometimes I don’t but I’m not going to hide what I think or question. And honestly? I’m going to sound like a fandom grandma but fandom never used to be like that. I’m not saying there were never arguments or discourse or whatever. But it was a place for everyone with varying thoughts and opinions, and also it was a safe space for people to all celebrate what they mutually love even if it wasn’t in the exact same way. Most fandoms simply aren’t like that anymore. That’s why the most peaceful fandoms that you see are ones where everyone genuinely agrees on almost everything (see: Young Royals).

Of course most of the Druck fandom is feeling for Mailin because they ARE Mailin.

Currently, young white people around the world are learning about racism and trying to be anti-racist. but the reality is, the way they get information is off the backs of black people, especially black femmes/woman. the process of becoming anti- racist also comes to a point where it’s not just learning about horrible things that other people have done, but also recognizing how YOU can be complicit in systemic racism without even realizes. it is also important to realize how taxing and emotionally draining being a person of color, ESPECIALLY black in this world can be. we are FINALLY at the point in history where a whole new generation of white young kids are trying to acknowledge/break the cycle their ancestors have created. it is important to recognize all the black/POC labor from activists over the decades that have made this possible. and still to this day, are we expected to educate our oppressors on our pain, trauma, and history. this can often be RETRAUMATIZING to black people and other POC because they have to face their trauma all over again. when you are white and learning about racism for the first time, it’s horrible, but doesn’t have the same visceral emotional response that comes with being retraumatized (even for just a second).

this clip highlights the importance of recognizing the mental/emotional labor that well-intentioned white people request, and sometimes DEMAND, from black people and POC. Black women and girls especially are expected to support others, while no one worries about how much the weight of it all affects them.

Fatou is feeling the weight of this too! She is a queer black girl. She has so much on her plate as well, but no one’s really reaching out to help her through it. Ava and Fatou have been assuming that the other have been able to deal with things easily. but this is where we to remember they are high schools students! teenagers! and that they make assumptions in friendships. their communication will get there!

i am so proud of druck for posting this clip. i am proud of Ava for expressing her struggles. i am also proud of the actresses on all sides who are taking on this topic!

as someone who had very similar experiences with my own white friends, i’m happy to see the representation!
