I HONESTLY DO NOT BELIEVE DAVE WAS JUST ABANDONED AT THE ORPHANAGE JUST BECAUSE HIS PARENTS DIDN’T LIKE HIM OR SOMETHING.
I DON’T LIKE TO THINK HE WAS "ABANDONED" AT ALL, ACTUALLY! IT JUST FEELS TOO…. SIMPLE. Dayshift at Freddy’s is the type of game to make things complicated, rather than straight forward, and or bland. I just feel like if doggo ever DID make a reason for Dave going to the orphanage, (which I am aware he never will, as Dave’s parents are entirely up for interpretation,) it wouldn’t be as clear cut as "he was ugly and his parents didn’t like him, lol." He just seems like the type of guy to make something as important as that have actual, genuine motive behind it. Sure, Dave’s parents aren’t "real," even in the fictional world of Dayshift at Freddy’s, and they’ll only ever be an idea, rather than fleshed out characters. I know that. But I am far too curious, and far too autistic, to NOT care about the possible motives and or chain of events that led to Dave being brought to the orphanage.
I personally feel, even without the context of this being in a game like DSaF; That with a weird, most likely feared, neighboring species from humans, a baby cryptid being brought to an orphanage just reeks of… desperation, similar to that of a last resort, rather than some sort of cruelness, or a personal "fuck you."
That’s just my thoughts, though. If anyone reading this has ideas for why Dave could have been brought to the orphanage, or any type of lore for Dave’s parents, PLEASE TELL ME!! I think as a fandom we should think about that idea more. But, then again, everything surrounding this topic is a mystery, and can be molded and shaped by any soul. It is entirely fine if you feel that Dave WAS in fact abandoned, in all honesty, it’s up to you! (I’m not hyperfixated on my the idea of Dave’s parents, YOU ARE!!)
